To make them, cut the handles off plastic grocery bags, then, starting at the top of the bag,

cut a oneinch wide continuous strip, spiraling around the bag to the bottom. (Don't use the seam at the bottom.) Do the same with other bags until you have several strips. Draw up elastic cord slightly, knot ends together securely and weave ends in as for yarn. LARGE AND SMALL FLOWERS for toe: LARGE FLOWER: (Make 2) Round 1: Make a slip knot, leaving a 3-inch tail. Repeat from * in Round 3 five more times. (24 dcs total.) Round 4: *Working in back loop of the next st, make 1 sc, 3 dc, 1 sc, then skip a stitch. This forms the first petal. Repeat from * in Round 4 eleven more times, for a total of 12 petals. Join last sc to first sc with a sl st. Cut yarn 3 inches from hook. Draw end through the sl st and to the back, forming an ending knot. Weave both ends toward each other on the back of the flower and tie them together securely with 3 knots. Trim yarn ends close to knots. SMALL FLOWER: (Make 2) Round 1: Make a slip knot, leaving a 3 inch tail of yarn. Ch 6. Join last ch st to first ch st with a sl st, forming a ring. Let yarn tail fall to the back while you work. Round 2: Make 16 sc into center of ring, sliding them close together to make them fit. Do NOT join with a sl st. Round 3: *Working in the back loop of next st, make 1 sc, 3 dc, 1 sc, then skip a st. This forms the first petal. Repeat from * in Round 3 seven more times for a total of 8 petals. Join last petal to back loop of first petal with a sl st knot, ending as above. To complete: Stack a small flower on top of a large flower on the toe of each slipper and tack in place with needle and thread.
