Homework: The homework lists contain textbook problems for each section covered. You are encouraged to form a small study group and work together on the homework problems. If you need help, please see the instructor during ofce hours or make an appointment at other times. Quizzes: Quizzes based on the homework, will be given most weeks. You will be allowed to drop at least one quiz. Quizzes cannot be made up. Grading Policy: There will be three tests (100 points each) and a two-part nal exam (100 points for each part). The quizzes grade will earn a maximum of 100 points. No make-up or early exams will be given. The second part of the nal exam is optional if and only if you meet all the following conditions: You have scored at least 73% on the rst three tests and at least 72% on the rst part of the nal You have not missed more than one quiz You have a combined average of at least 75% The score on the second part of the nal exam may be doubled to replace one of the rst three test scores, the quizzes grade, or to assign a grade for one missed exam. The score on the rst part of the nal cannot be dropped. Failure to show up for the nal exam will result in a score of zero. The course grade will be based on a maximum of 600 points for those exempt from the second part of the nal and 500 points for those who must take it. The following grading scale is guaranteed: The course grade will be based on a maximum of 600 points and the following grading scale is guaranteed: A: 90% average and at least 82% on the rst part of the nal B: 80% average and at least 72% on the rst part of the nal C: 70% average and at least 62% on the rst part of the nal D: 60% average

The cutoffs may be lowered slightly for a strong performance in the nal exam. For example, a student with an overall average of 78% and a nal exam score of 85% may be awarded a B.
