Fragments Of A HOLOGRAM ROSE

The man named Parker just went through the end of relationship with his girlfriend. To cope with that he finds himself going through her collection of sense-recordings in order to sleep through the night; and through these recordings. We see his past in tiny bits and how the very nature of sense-recordings has shaped his adult life. Story starts when narrator tells us that Parker had trouble sleeping. He bought a ASP cassette with the subject asleep on the quiet beach, recorded by a young blond yogi where a boy is taking a nap on Barbados' beach. Next scene; 3 am in the morning. Parker is making a coffee when he realizes what has happened yesterday. His girlfriend broke up with him. He was standing in the rain screaming to the cabby. Back to his memories; he saw his first ASP unit in Texas shanty shantytown. He also reminds himself New York with the first portable decks in major department stores. Back to present; Parker is thirty. He writes continuity for broadcast ASP, programming the eye movements of the industry's human cameras. Now, he is in bedroom, holding coffee in hand. He finds a leather sandal strap, an ASP cassette and a postcard. Postcard is a reflection hologram of the rose. He drops the postcard and the rose is shredded into a thousand fragments. Later, he is sitting on unmade bed. His girlfriend cassette is in the deck ready for playback. He hesitates to start the machine because he wonders whether Angela recorded a lover on this ASP.

Again, back to memories. Parker started out training to work for Japanese mega-corporation when he was 15. He lived company's life for three years to achieve full employee status in his twentieth. However, he decided to escape a week before his neneteenth birthday with two stolen credit cards. He was in California, in San Francisco during regime collapse and then he was making love to a teenager from New Jersey. Again return to the present time with an explanation that the first three quarters of the Angela's cassette is erased. Next, Parker memories about New Mexico and a burning tank on the highway. Also, what he experienced with the body of a woman and her leather jacket. That night he tried his first ASP machine. Parker is experiencing Angela's cassette; he is looking through his girlfriend's eyes on a strange city; Athens. The tape ends and Parker lies in the darkness. He recalls the thousand fragments of the hologram rose and he thinks whether we are each other's fragments. He consider that each fragment of a hologram, when recovered and illuminated, will reveal the whole image of the rose and each fragment reveals the rose from a different angle. Does it mean that his girl friend is closer to him now and what is their history? Question is unanswered. The story is pull together around a cohesive spirit of memory and the contrast between so-called reality and a tape of sense-recordings.

SCENE 1 I have chosen the fragment from New York, which is at the beginning of the book, when Parker realized what had happend the day before. His girlfriend Angela had left him through going away in the yellow taxi. It was raining at that night. In my interpretation, I am going to show city outskirts where is dark and dangerous. Almost no one moves this time on the streets. I imagine the scene with rain, smoke, dust etc.

SCENE 2 In my second fragment, I am going to interpret the scene on the Barbados' beach where is quite quiet. Viewer hears just the sound of the sea.
