If you are using any Thomson Modem which has USB Master port and the Modem also Implements 'printersharing' feature then this presentation Would help you to share the printer connected to USB Master Port of the modem, amongst the users connected to LAN and WLAN interface of the Modem. Modem examples are TG782 TG784, TG787 and TG797n
Step 1 would be to install the printer Driver on your PC. All the PC users who want to use this printer must install Printer driver on their PCs. Modem will only co-ordinate the work of sharing the printer Amongst multiple users.
Step 2 : Enter CLI interface of the Modem and do some configuration as shown In next few slides. I am using TG797n in this example. However configuration Steps are identical across all Thomson Modems which have printersharing feature
Enter following commands as shown above :printersharing LPD config state enabled :printersharing LPD queue add name=queueTG797n type=Raw :saveall :exit
Step 3: Configure shared Printer, when you click at above selection see next slide for response Navigate from start and highligh Printers & Faxes then left click
Select radio button 'Create a new port' then Click 'Next' see next slide
Select radio button 'Create a New Port' Select type of port as 'Standard TCP/IP Port' From the List on Right hand side. Then click 'Next'
Click Next
Enter the values as shown above starting from IP address Text Box the value Gets copied with suffix IP_ . Add My_ before IP_ as shown then click Next It would take quite some time before next slide appears so be patient to next slide
Click on Custom Radio button then Click Next. It would take a while from previous Window until this window appears. Click on Settings See Next slide
Select Radio button LPR and Enter Queue Name as TG797Printer then Press OK See next slide
Enter the queue Name 'queueTG797n' which is same as one used in TG797n modem Configuration done at the very beginning. They must match. Click Next
Click Finish
Select the Printer Brand in this case Manufacturer Canon and Printer Canon i560 then press Next
Keep Yes option since you would be using this printer in your Home Network environment Click Next
Keep option Yes click Next This gives you an opportunity to verify If all settings & Modem configuration is OK
After a while Printer should print the Test page That confirms that Your Exercise of Printer sharing on TG797n is successful, Bravo!
Open some Notepad document and Give Print command from File Menu see Next
Print the document using print command from File Menu as shown
You should see Printer activity in Progress if you double click Printer icon in system Tray as shown above. In case Printer o/p Takes a while because Modem is busy you can always check The status. By Clicking on the Job you can cancel is restart it In case printer is not acting as it should.
