Through, The Patrons, Africa Regional Meeting 2011, 4th May 2011. Dear Sir/Madam Dear Sir/Madam RE: SPONSORSHIP FOR THE AFRICA REGIONAL MEETING-2011. We wish to bring to your attention the up-coming African Regional Meeting to be held in Nairobi, Kenya on the 12th through to 19th December 2011 at St. Christophers Secondary School in Karen. This is an annual event that brings together medical students, health care providers, policy and decision makers to deliberate on health matters in Africa. The first ARM was held in 2004 and has since become an annual event. In 2010, it was held in Nigeria where Kenya won the bid to host this years event. The conference is organised by Medical Students Association of Kenya (MSAKE), International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA) in conjunction with the University of Nairobi, Kenya Medical Association (KMA) and Kenya Medical Women Association (KMWA). We look forward to inviting researchers, ministry officials, corporate stakeholders and medical students to make this event a success. With regard to this event, we kindly request your participation by choosing and sponsoring one of the attached packages in the proposal. The funds will help cater for the conference expenses, lectures, prizes and awards and logistics. Part of the fund will also be collectively used to conduct a free medical camp during the post ARM events in a site to be chosen later. Background Information
The International Federation of Medical Students association (IFMSA) is an independent, non -political organization founded in 1951. It is officially recognized by the UN as a non-governmental organization and by the World Health Organization as the International forum for Medical Students. 1.5 Million Students are represented in the member organizations of IFMSA, collectively representing 98 Countries across five Continents. In December last year, the African chapter met in Abuja, Nigeria to discuss Millennium Development Goals 3, 4, 5 and 6 and the journey so far in Africa. The Medical Students Association of Kenya (MSAKE) has been instrumental in health advocacy. Since 2008, we have organized and hosted annual international thematic conferences some officiated by Minister for Medical Services among other advocacies like World Aids campaign and Cervical Cancer screening. As a strong member and player of the IFMSA African region, the Medical Students Association of Kenya (MSAKE) sent a delegation to the African Regional Meeting (ARM).During the ARM, MSAKE won the bid to host the 2011 event in Nairobi-Kenya.

Working Relationship with KMWA and KMA


Following the successful presentation of our bid in Nigeria, Kenya Medical Womens Association (KWMA) through the administrator and Kenya Medical Association (KMA) through Dr. Kaisha, Dr Elly Opot and the administrator Mr. Bosire have been very supportive in the planning of this ARM. They have been very instrumental in our strategic thinking as well as serving as our mentors for the congress.

The Africa regional meeting is an annual event that brings together researcher, academia, policy makers and medical students together to deliberate on health issues. The ARM was held in 2004 and has since bigger and better. In 2009 and 2010 the ARMs were held in Sudan and Nigeria respectively. Procedure Pre- ARM This is usually a three day intense workshop. Delegates meet and deliberate on emerging issues in the health care sector. The delegates attending the ARM usually pay for the charges of the same. However the organizing committee strives to subsidize the cost to encourage high participation. ARM . This is usually the main reason for the meeting. Delegates from all over Africa pay a subsidized standard registration fee of $100.The proposed venue for the ARM is St. Christopher Post-ARM This is mainly a free medical camp to a pre selected neglected area where the local inhabitants receive free diagnostic and medical care. This event also offers the delegates an opportunity to sample the countrys tourist attraction sites. Delegates pay a fee which is highly subsidized. The proposed site for this years post ARM is Masinga Dam Resort.
