Introduction
NYC Street Closures is New York Citys online map portal for displaying street closures. The application provides access to information regarding current and future street closures and allows the user to perform searches based on date and location.

Navigating to NYC Street Closures


NYC Street Closures can be accessed from numerous locations, including NYC.gov, the Citys official Internet portal. The direct address to the map is: http://gis.nyc.gov/streetclosure/

NOTE: When navigating to the site in Internet Explorer, the data will not be displayed on the initial screen. To display street closures on the map you must take one of the following actions: 1. Search for a specific location using the form on the Location tab to the left 2. Zoom in to a more precise location using the mouse wheel or Zoom Slider 3. Click a link in one of the table rows or right-click a row to zoom to that record Each of these is described in more detail in following sections.

Searching for a Specific Date and Time


You can search for a specific date and time by using the Date/Time module to the left of the map. Click the Date/Time tab to open the module. The date menu is automatically populated with the current date. If necessary, change the date which you would like to search. In addition, a specific time can be searched by clicking the button next to Enter a Specific Time and choosing the appropriate time value. NOTE: the default search time is All Day.

Click Find to perform the search based on the new Date/Time combination.

Searching for a Location


You can search for a specific location by using the Location module to the left of the map. Click the Location tab to open the module. The module allows for searches by address, intersection, or street between intersections.

Searching by Address
Select Address in the SEARCH TYPE drop-down menu. Enter the building number in the ADDRESS NUMBER. field, the street name in the STREET NAME field, and select the borough from the BOROUGH drop-down menu. Then click the Find button in the lower-left of the module, or press the Enter key. The map will automatically center and zoom in on that address. The selected area will also be marked with a red diamond icon.

Searching by Intersection
Select Intersection in the Search Type drop-down menu. Enter the cross streets in the CROSS STREET ONE and CROSS STREET TWO fields, and select the borough from the BOROUGH drop-down menu. Then click the Find button in the lower-left of the module, or press the Enter key. The map will automatically center and zoom in on that intersection. The selected area will also be marked with a red diamond icon.

Searching by Street between Intersections


Select Street Between Intersections in the SEARCH TYPE drop-down menu. Enter the on street in the ON STREET field, the cross streets in the CROSS STREET ONE and CROSS STREET TWO fields, and select the borough from the BOROUGH drop-down menu. Then click the Find button in the lower-left of the module, or press the Enter key. The map will automatically center and zoom in on that intersection. The selected area will also be marked with a red diamond icon.

Display the Legend


You can display the legend for all street closure activity by using the Legend module to the left of the map. Click the Legend tab to open the module. The legend automatically has all layers checked by default. You can turn on and off layers on the map by clicking in the check box next to the layer name.

Using the Summary Table


The Street Closure Summary Table is located under the map. It is populated with data pertinent to street closure permits and stipulations. The tabs included on the summary table are Event Closures and Construction Closures. Each of these tabs can be clicked to see the corresponding data.

The table displays the first ten (10) results. To see additional records use the pagination tools on the bottom left to navigate through the records. You can use these to go to the first page, the previous page, the next page, or the last page. In addition, you can type a specific page and go directly to it, or refresh the table.

Associating the Map and Summary Table


You can associate a record in the summary table to the map by selecting a record in the summary table. After selecting a record it will be highlighted in cyan. Right click on the mouse and click the Zoom to Selection pop up button. The map will zoom to the location of the selected record which will also be highlighted in cyan. Alternatively, click on the hyperlink (blue text) in the Type column on the table to zoom to that feature. NOTE: when the map changes zoom levels, the contents of the table are limited to only those features that are approximately within the current map extent.

Identifying Features on the Map


At any point, you can click on a feature on the map. The results of this identify operation will be displayed in a callout box on the map. The information presented in the identify box is the same as the information presented in the table.
