Daily Lesson Plan Subject : Science Class : 4 Amanah Date : 12 October 2012 Time : 40 minutes No of students : 22 students Theme

: Energy in life. Learning area : Nuclear energy. Learning objective : Understanding radioactive substances. Learning outcomes: 1. Explain what is radioisotope. 2. Give example of radioisotope. 3. Explain the uses of radioactive substances. Prior knowledge : Student have learnt about the type of energy. Lesson outcomes : At the end of this lesson, student should be able a) Content knowledge. - To explain the meaning of radioisotope by using their own word after discussing with friend correctly. - To give example of radioisotope in different type of field correctly. - To explain the uses of alpha, beta, and gamma by using proper example correctly. b) Science process skill (SPS)/ Thinking Skill Thinking Strategy (PSTS)/Manipulated skill (MS) - To classify between the stable and unstable isotope by using suitable example given by teacher correctly. - To relate the radioisotope with their uses in various field such as agriculture, medicine, archeology, industry and food preservative after discussing with friend correctly. c) Science attitude and Noble value. - To respect each other during the discussion session. - To listen to their friends view openly during the lesson. - To realizing the important of radioisotope in our life.

Teaching and learning resources : Apparatus Power point presentation Worksheet/ Table Amount 1 2

Teaching steps : Phase / Time Content Teaching and learning activity Engaging Elicit ideas (5mins) Isotope : Atom that have same number of proton but different number of neutron. Teacher give some question about isotope. (pre-test) Student need to answer the question based on their prior knowledge. Remarks Teaching resources Pre-test SPS Observation Using space time relationship. Science attitude/noble value Respectful

Radioisotope : Empowering. Radioisotope is an unstable isotope. (Restructure Example : carbon-12 stable but idea) carbon -14 are unstable known 20mins as radioactive substance. Radioisotope are useful in various field such as agriculture, medicine, archaeology, industry and food preservation.

Teacher give lecture to student through the power point presentation. Student listen carefully to the lecture and ask any question if they not

Agriculture - Carbon-14 isotope added to carbon dioxide to study photosynthesis. - Gamma ray used to kill or sterile pests - Phosphorus -32 added to fertilizer to study rate of absorption of certain fertilizer by plant. Medicine - Cobalt-60 use to kill cancer cell. - Sodium -24 is injected into body to trace the location of blood clot. Industry - Sodium -24 are used to locate the source of leakage in underground pipe. Food preservation. - Gamma rays are used to sterilize food in a close container. Archaeology. - Carbon -14 is used in carbon dating to estimate the age of ancient material based on the quantity of carbon that still remain in them

understand.

Student divide themselves into five group. Teacher give a problem related to the uses of radioisotope for each group. (worksheet 1.0) Student need to discuss in group to solve the problem.(coopera tive learning.) Each group present the solution in front of the class.

Science attitude / noble value Respectful Cooperative. Curiosity.

Enhancing (Apply idea) 10mins

Applying the concept of radioisotope.

Student will divide into 5 groups. Each group will give a table about the uses of radioisotope and need to think the impact if this substance are absent. (Table 1 ) Each group need to present their opinion in front of the classroom.

Appendixes : Pre test questions. 1. Had you heard about isotope before this? If yes give the meaning. 2. Give an example of isotope that you know?

3. Did isotope benefit to us? Explain. Post test questions. 1. What is radioisotope? 2. Gives example of radioisotope and state their uses. 3. In your opinion what will happen if scientist not discover about the important of radioisotope in our life?

Worksheet 1.0 1. Pak Mat live in terrace house. As usually at the end of each month he needs to pay their bills at the post office. But he feel shock for the amount that he need to pay for water in that particular month because the amount exceed RM200 not as usual. As a science student can you help Pak Mat? State what had happen. Suggest method that you can help Pak Mat.
