Second edition 1997.
PREFACE
This Standard was prepared by the Standards Australia Committee MS/6 on Cooking
Utensils Dimensions to supersede AS 1408— 1973, Size coding scheme for cooking
utensils . This edition of the Standard includes editorial and technical amendments
identified as necessary during the application of the 1973 edition.
The ‘Standard size code’ column from Table 1 of the previous edition of the Standard has
been deleted as it was found not to be used in practice. The title of the Standard was also
changed to reflect the elimination of size coding. In addition, the items of equipment have
been rearranged in alphabetical order for simplicity.
The Committee considered adding the wok to the sizing scheme, as it was recognized as a
commonly used cooking utensil. However, the wok was not included due to inadequate
information on recommended dimensions and capacities for woks.
