Grading The Dutch grading scale runs from 1 (lowest grade) to 10 (highest grade). As an indication, 5,5 is a passing grade. Please be aware that grades 9, 10 and all grades lower than 3 are highly exceptional and are therefore rarely given. Dutch Education The Netherlands has two types of universities: Universities of Applied Sciences and Research Universities. The rst are more career-oriented and offer 4 year Bachelors (B) and 1-2 year Masters (M), while they do not offer PhD degrees. Research Universities are more researchoriented, offer 3 year Bachelor degrees (BA, BSc, LLB), 1-2 year Masters (MA, MSc, LLM) and do offer PhD degrees. Depending on your future career wishes, you should be very aware of the difference between these two types of universities.
The University of Groningen is the only Dutch higher education institution to have an ECTS label and a Diploma Supplement label, awarded and recognized by the European Commission
