Safety
The Volvo 8700 is a Volvo down to the smallest detail. So passenger safety comes first every time. Above all this means giving the driver the best conditions for driving the bus safely, for example, by using the new generation of electronically controlled brakes. There are many other examples. The body is designed to meet R-66 norms and is also reinforced front and back. All the seats have two-point or three-point seatbelts and booster cushions for children are available.
A stiff frame design and efficient suspension are hidden details that give your passengers a smoother ride.
Quickly on and off with low entry
If fast passenger flows and simple entry and exit for disabled passengers or passengers with baby buggies are priorities for you then the Volvo 8700 Low-entry is the right choice. The front step is 320 mm above the ground for buses equipped with 275/70 tyres, and this height can be reduced
The large luggage racks inside the bus and a boot that can be as large as 9 cubic metres provide plenty of space for luggage.
The Volvo 8700 Low-entry has a low step and wide aisle to ensure swift passenger flows and comfortable entry and exit for all passengers.
The Volvo 8700 features a spacious, comfortable interior and a pleasant climate. There is a wide variety of fittings, seat layouts, seats and various comfort and safety extras.

Electronic Brake System). This system provides excellent braking performance with rapid and controllable braking. It can be supplemented with our electronic stability programme (ESP), which strongly reduces the risk of the bus rolling over or driving off the road, for instance in slippery conditions or sharp curves. The system also contains a range of functions, including Hill Start Aid, which prevents the bus rolling backwards on hill starts, Brake Blending, which makes sure that the brakes and additional brakes work together optimally. You can also specify a differential lock for low speeds, continuous checking of brake pad condition and monitoring of disc brake temperature.
Complies with Euro 4. Ready for Euro 5 (incentive)
Large windows and rear-view mirrors provide good, allround vision. You can even add a reversing camera to see whats going on behind the bus.
World-class driving performance
When you touch the accelerator the engines response is immediate. Our 12-litre engine is rated at 340 or 380 bhp. Torque is high all the way across the rev spectrum. That means swift response at low revs. When you choose the Volvo I-Shift automatic gear changing system you can expect even finer performance. Volvo I-Shift changes gear gently, smoothly and precisely. It also means lower fuel consumption. The gear changing system is available in four versions for different application areas Basic, Commuter, Line Haul and Tour & Charter.
Easy to manoeuvre and stable
Volvos new engine generation is basically designed to achieve extremely low particle emissions. The Volvo 8700 also minimises nitrogene oxide (NOx) emissions through a system for after-treatment of the waste gases. It is called SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction). A mixture of urea and water (known as AdBlue) is injected into the waste gases. When they pass through the catalyst, a chemical reaction transforms the NOx into harmless nitrogen and water. This technique is simple and reliable, and enables both current and future emission requirements to be met. The Volvo 8700 is certified for Euro 4 and also comes in an incentive version for Euro 5 (340 bhp).
The Volvo 8700 is easy to drive and holds the road with great stability. Efficient servo-steering and a small turning radius make it simple to manoeuvre. And thanks to careful distribution of weight, stiff frame construction and electronically controlled air suspension and adapted front suspension, you get maximum comfort and excellent road holding.
