Pineapple Butterfly

MATERIALS: Suggestion: Size 10 cotton thread, #7 steel hook. Use the


thread and hook size you like.

Stitches:
Shell: (3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc) in same space
Shell over Shell: Work a Shell in the ch-2 space of previous Shell
Double Shell: (3 dc, ch 3, 3dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same space

BUTTERFLY

Head
Rnd 1: Ch 13. Join with sl st to form ring, ch 1, 29 sc in ring. Join.
(29 sc in the ring)

Now work in rows as follows:


Row 1: Ch 5, (skip next sc, dc in next sc, ch 2) 9 times; skip next sc, dc in
next sc. Ch 5, turn.

Row 2: 2 dc in first sp, * ch 2, 2 dc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Ch 5,


turn.

Row 3: In each sp across make (3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc) (9 shells made). Ch 5,


turn.

Row 4: Shell over shell, * ch 3, shell over next shell. Repeat from * across.
Ch 5, turn.

Row 5: Shell over shell, * ch 3, in ch-2 sp of next shell make


[(tr, ch 1) 10 times, tr, ---you will have 11 trebles with a ch-1 sp in between];
ch 3, shell over next shell. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn.

Row 6: Shell over shell, * (ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp) 10 times; ch 3, shell over
next shell. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn.

Row 7: Shell over shell, * ch 3, skip next sp, (sc in next loop, ch 3) 9 times;
double shell over shell, repeat from * across, ending with shell in sp of last
shell. Ch 5, turn. Now work pineapples individually as follows:

FIRST PINEAPPLE
Row 1: Shell over shell, ch 3, skip next sp, (sc in next loop, ch 3) 8 times; ch
3, skip next sp, shell in next sp. Ch 5, turn.

Row 2: Shell over shell, ch 3, skip next sp, (sc in next loop, ch 3) 7 times; ch
3, shell over next shell. Ch 5, turn.

Repeat 2nd row having 1 loop less on each row until 1 loop remains. Ch 5, turn.

Next row: Shell over shell, ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 3, 3 dc in sp of next


shell, ch 1, sl st in sp of last shell made, ch 1, 2 dc in same sp as last 3 dc
were made, ch 3, sl st in same sp. Break off.

SECOND PINEAPPLE
Row 1 : Attach thread to next sp on last complete row, ch 5, shell in same sp,
ch 3, skip next sp, (sc in next sp, ch 3) 8 times; skip next sp, shell in next sp.
Ch 5, turn.

Complete as for First Pineapple. Work other pineapples to correspond.

ANTENNAE

With right side facing, and counting upwards, attach thread with a sl st to
the 3rd shell of the upper wing to the right of the head, ch 25, sl st in the
center of the head, ch 25, sl st to the opposite 3 rd shell of the left upper
wing.
