SITUATION

MISSION

Delta, 1/1 ABCwill conduct an MK19 Range at Fort Swampy TA MK19 range on 250830May29 in order to qualify 14 Soldiers from the BN on their assigned Crew Serve Weapon.

EXECUTION

Commanders Intent:
It is my intent to safely conduct an MK 19 range to standard with 100% qualification. All personnel qualifying with the MK19 will be given the opportunity to conduct training prior to the range and will be familiar with the layout and execution to include their manning requirements and responsibilities. Proper planning of PMI, PCC/PCI, and execution of the range will ensure success is met. The MK19 range will be planned, coordinated, and executed IAW STRAC standards.

CONCEPT OF THE OPERATION

PHASE I: PLANNING/RECON
KEY TASKS:
Identify and certify all Range Safety Officers, Range OIC, and NCOIC. Initial and secondary reconnaissance conducted Personnel firing the MK19 are notified. Breakdown is as follows: A Bty B Bty ; C Bty D Bty 13DEC10 and 11JAN11 - Range OIC (2LT ), NCOIC(SSG) RSO (SSG) conduct leaders recon of TA MK19 19JAN11 Range OIC (2LT), NCOIC (SSG) and RSO (SSG) brief the S3 and S3 SGM. PCIs and PCCs of all MK19 firers range equipment will be conducted NLT 20JAN11 at the unit level.

ENDSTATE: During this phase, range personnel will conduct all necessary planning, coordination, training, and rehearsals.

PHASE II: Pre-Marksmanship/EST

KEY TASKS: - PMI will be conducted at the Unit Level NLT 20JAN11. - Table I for the MK19 will be fired at EST 3 on 24JAN11. - On range day, firers will fire Table I with the MK19. Round count per firer is 62. ENDSTATE: -All MK19 firers will be prepared for range qualification on 25JAN11.

PHASE III: RANGE EXECUTION

KEY TASKS: 100% qualification Goal for weapons qualification is 50% or better firing expert. Develop teamwork and unit cohesion when conducting range operations. Ensure and reinforce the use of the strictest SAFETY standards and maintain an up-to-date risk assessment verified through the chain of command. Everyone is a safety officer throughout all phases of the operation and can stop all range operations upon witnessing an unsafe act.

ENDSTATE: 1/1 ABC BN will enhance their basic marksmanship skills and certify all available personnel on their assigned crew serve weapons thus increasing the readiness of the unit to deploy, engage and destroy the enemies of the United States.

REMEDIAL TRAINING
Any soldier unable to qualify on the initial try will immediately be sent to remedial training. SPC will be available to conduct remedial training on basic marksmanship fundamentals in accordance with FM 3-22.27. The remedial training will take place in the warming tent and in the warming room/supply room.

PHASE IV: RANGE RECOVERY

KEY TASKS: Request Dry Status from Range Control. Police up donnage/ammo/range cleaning Redeploy safely with 100% equipment and weapons accountability. Report GOLD DUST GREEN report Conduct weapons maintenance at the unit level

ENDSTATE: This phase is complete upon the safe arrival of all personnel back to the 1/1ABC BN area and range OIC has notified staff duty in the form of a GOLD DUST GREEN report upon return, signaling the start of recovery.

Task to Units

All assigned firers are overall responsible for bringing their own weapons to the range. Each battery is responsible for ensuring their firers have conducted PMI, perform PCCs/PCIs and transport their firers to TA MK19.

Task to Subordinate Units

OIC (2LT)
The OIC will be responsible to open and close the range each day The OIC/RSO will provide a safety briefing to all personnel prior to the occupation of the range Supervise and ensure all daily range operations are conducted to standard Conduct range operation AAR upon completion of firers Liaison w/ Range Control Provide Range Results to the S-3 Request Wet Check-In/Dry Status

Task to Subordinate Units

NCOIC (SSG) Responsible for ensuring all range equipment is acquired and uploaded Responsible for coordinating all activities and obtaining all supplies for the operation of the firing line Ensure there is one entry/exit point and only authorized personnel are on the range Responsible for keeping range on schedule Move all firers safely to and from the range in an orderly fashion. Maintain control at all times Ensure a donnage and ammo shakedown is conducted Responsible for medics and all guard details for the front entrance to the range Maintain control and accountability of all personnel and vehicles on range

Task to Subordinate Units

RSO (SSG) Responsible for providing a safety briefing to firers immediately upon their arrival at the range and the safe conduct of all personnel throughout the range Assist the OIC/NCOIC in their safety duties Ensure each safety has white engineer tape around ACH/Kevlar Ensure that all safeties know their prescribed duties Ensure communication between safeties with proper paddle signals

Safeties (SGT Miller, SGT Ray, SGT Sherrod, SSG Storey) Responsible for ensuring all weapons are pointed in a safe direction at all times and in the proper configuration Responsible for their assigned lane and ensuring that all firers are executing safe procedures

Task to Subordinate Units

ECP and RTO (SPC) Responsible for bringing 1x HMMVV with 2x radios and radio mounts Responsible for manning both the communications and guard points, and rotating soldiers between these assigned duties Responsible for maintaining a by name listing and count of all personnel, weapons, and vehicles on the range at all times; keeping the NCOIC/OIC updated at all times Responsible for briefing guards on General Orders, Special Orders, and procedures for operating the radio

Ammo NCO and detail (SGT) [Ammo Handler Certified] Responsible for ensuring that ammunition is distributed according to requirements and that all brass is collected, keeping accountability of all ammunition on the range to include pick up and turn-in Ammo detail NCO will coordinate with S-3 regarding where and when to pickup and return the ammunition Ammo detail will break out the ammunition IAW firing table and applicable Fort Sill SOPs Responsible for keeping daily accountability of ammunition

Task to Subordinate Units

Armorer (PV2) Armorer is responsible for supplying a tool kit, LSAT and any other items needed to ensure the weapons stay in good working order. Responsible for responding to any weapon malfunctions or unit level adjustments and providing remedial training on the MK19.

Medic ( CPL) Will provide 1 FLA for medic support for ranges and will BPT MEDEVAC any casualties MEDEVAC routes have been reconed and strip maps constructed Set-up landing zone for air MEDEVAC Ensure A bags in FLA are properly stocked Ensure MK19 range is stocked with hearing protection and cold weather injury supplies.

Coordinating Instructions

Firers bring all necessary cleaning supplies as needed. The medic vehicle (FLA) will be properly marked and at designated range site The uniform for all personnel will be the 1/1ABC BN Field Standard. In addition, all firers are required to bring the following equipment to the range: Assigned Weapon, Wet weather gear (if needed), Hearing Protection and Eye Pro Clearing barrel will be provided at entrance/exit of range

Coordinating Instructions

Armor: Will provide a list of personnel assigned to the crew serve weapons NLT 181200JAN11 Battery XO: Will reserve 2 radios, water source, tables, chairs, MREs and 2 tents for ECP and Remedial Training NLT 181500JAN11 Medics: Will provide 2 Medics with FLA.

SERVICE SUPPORT

Class I. XO supply will provide MREs and water source for all firers and range detail. Class II. Company supply will provide the following items: (1)Tables (x2) (2)Chairs (x4) (3)Tents (x2) (4)Ear plugs (5)Engineer Tape (6)Range Kit Class III. All vehicles will fuel up the night before at refuel point (Bldg # 2245). Class IV. N/A

SERVICE SUPPORT

Class V. (1) Ammunition detail will coordinate with S-3 for ammo draw. Class VI. N/A Class VII. N/A Class VIII. (1) Medical supplies and support will be provided by medics/Combat Life Savers on the range. (2) Medics/Combat Life Savers will attend the rehearsal and depart with range detail from the COF. Two medical personnel will remain in the prescribed uniform on MK19 range at all times. They will carry their Medic ID cards at all times and they will have no other assigned duties. (3) Medics will have a Strip Map from the MK19 range to the Fort Sill Hospital and rehearse the route prior to a HOT status. (From TA MK19 to Reynolds Hospital: 6.1 miles or 16 min). Class IX. N/A

SERVICE SUPPORT
MEDICAL EVACUATION PROCEDURES 1. All injuries will be reported to OIC/NCOIC. OIC/NCOIC will report injury to range control and immediately notify the MEDICS on-site. 2. Patients will be evacuated by ambulance in order to save life, limb, or eyesight. Reference FORT SILL RANGE SOP # 1, C-39. They will not be taken by helicopter/air due to close vicinity to Reynolds Hospital. a. Medics will be provided strip maps to Reynolds Hospital b. Distance from TA MK19 to Reynolds 6.1 miles, Time: 16 minutes

COMMAND AND SIGNAL

a) Command
(1) The succession of command is: Range OIC 2LT, NCOIC SSG, RSO SSG, and Range Safeties (2) All commands will be taken from the Tower/Range Safeties (3) The ECP will post all guards and maintain a count of all personnel present on the range, by name, rank and weapons SN. (4) OIC, NCOIC, RSO, and safeties will be identified by white engineer tape around their ACH / Kevlar.
