THE MEANING OF DEMOCRACY The term of democracy comes from Greek, and consisted of two syllable : demos means

people, and cratein means government or to rule. Thereby, democracy can be interpreted as government of the people. Referring to the democracy term, the 16 th president of the united states, Abraham Lincoln (1808-1865), stated that democracy is government from the people, by people, and for the people. By this means, a government is considered applying democracy system if the highest power is on the hand of the people. Mean, the state policies is determined based on the peoples aspiration. THE APPLICATION OF DEMOCRACY CULTURE IN EVERYDAY LIFE AND IN LEADERSHIP Pancasila democracy is the manifestation of the Indonesia peoples way of life. Therefore, Pancasila democracy must be applied in so many life aspect, either in states life and also in everyday life. 1. Application of Democracy Culture in Everyday Life a. Application of Democracy Culture in Family Environment Democracy culture is applicable in family environment. The implementation of democracy in family environment is not only limited to the deliberation at the time of taking a decision, but also can be developed by accustoming some behaviors like the following. 1) Parents do not compel their will in educating their children (not authoritative) 2) Children must respect and love their parents and other member of family 3) Parents openly receive suggestions and opinions from family member 4) Children willingly accept advice from parents 5) Division of duties in house works, for example in the case of house hygiene, so that every member of family will have discipline and responsibility to their own duty b. Applying of Democracy Culture in Area of School The application of democracy culture in school environment can be developed through following actions. 1) The election of chief of OSIS or head of class Through this activity every student will learn the way performing politics, where every children can use their right to vote, passively or actively in the agenda of forming official member of OSIS or official class member. 2) Arrange a shift of class team The arrangement of class team can be performed based on deliberation, so that all students can accept and execute the result of the deliberation. 3) School Activity

When the school activity is taking place, teacher can create a democratic learning situations, which is by giving opportunity to students to enquire, accept, and esteem opinion put forward by other students. On the contranty, students will also learn to think critically, have the courage to ask questions, and dare to put forward an opinion correctly and responsibly, dare to give suggestions, ideas or critism over politics concerning students interest in a correct way. c. The application of Democracy in Society Environment The application of democracy culture in society environment can be developed through following activities. 1) The election official member of RT or official member of RW The same as to the election of official member of OSIS, in the election of official member of RT or official member of RW every member also has equal right to be elected and to elect. 2) Arrange the Public Development Programs The public development programs are usually discussed through deliberation by involving all members. The public development programs generally concerns about several points, such as purpose, fund, and the implementation. Because all programs are commons interest, hence all members must acknowledge and at the same time implement it properly. 3) Transparency of the Official Members of RT / RW Transparency of the official members of RT / RW can be implemented in the accountability report of the public fund (member fee). With the transparency, hence the official members of RT / RW could justify the fund managed by it carefully. Good fund management will draw trust from the public. 2. Democratic Leadership Basically, one thing which is demanded from leader is good example. A leader must become a good example for all of his / her members. Therefore, a leader must have qualities such as religious, have good morality, knowledge, skillful, and democratic, so can give good example to all of the members. From the leader qualities mentioned before, the quality we will be studied here is about a democratic leader. a. The Ideas of Democratic Leader A democratic leader is leader who placing him / herself not as a superior to a subordinate, but as an elder brother among his fellow workers or as an older brother to his brother and sisters. The characteristics of a democratic leader are as follows. 1) Willing to accept opinions, suggestions, or even criticism from friends. 2) Never compel own will 3) Willing to hear, accept and respect other peoples opinions

4) Prioritize deliberation in taking decision b. The Style of Democratic Leadership Leadership is a science, art, and profession. As a science, leadership can be studied by everybody. However, practically it needs to be adapted for certain situation and condition. As an art, leadership can be interpreted as a method or effort, which can awaken attention, spirit, intention, and determination of the people led to achieve common goals. As a profession, the idea of leadership is related with the status of a person who is in control, the nature and attitude owned by a leader, and the method and technique of leadership in carrying his / her duties. Every leader has their own leadership style. In this case, we will be studied about democratic leadership style. Democratic leaders interpret their leadership not as dictators but as a leader of a group of people. A democratic leader always tries to encourage his / her members to work cooperatively to achieve the common purpose. In implementing his / her duties, a democratic leader will accept and even expect opinions and suggestions from the group. Criticisms coming from the members are accepted as the feedback and taken into consideration for taking the next actions. This democratic leadership style is embraced by many people.
