Comprised of many par 3s and a few par 4s (and sometimes a par 5), theyre quick to traverse and perfect to practice on before attempting championship courses. here are four good ones to take a swing at in the greater Phoenix area.     Located near upscale resorts and shopping centers, this golf courseironicallyhas a basic layout and rather homely greens. But its personality, the friendly staff and affordable pricing are sure to win you over. Designed by Greg Nash, Jeff Hardin and Milt Coggins, Coronado Golf Course was constructed in the mid 60s and plays for 1,850 yards. It also has a lit driving range.

    Built in 1935, the Encanto Golf Course is among the oldest in the area. In addition to an 18-hole championship layout, there is a nine-hole, par30 executive course just a block away. The Encanto 9 features 1,730 yards of golf and offers fabulous views of Piestewa Peak and downtown Phoenixs skyline. Designed by William P. Bell, there are wide fairways with plenty of mature palm and salt cedar trees.

    This 18-hole, par-56 executive golf course plays for 3,081 yards. Set near Camelback Mountain, which bears resemblance to a kneeling camel, it offers spectacular sceneryboth in mountain views and green fairways lined with oleanders and palm trees. Designed by Jack Snyder, players will enjoy the back nine, thanks to water features including a creek and small lake.

    Located in northeast Mesa, this par-30 course offers a fine golf experience. Dubbed Mesas

    favorite nine-hole golf course, it boasts a friendly atmosphere and a layout thats seasoned with great water features and bunkers on more than half of its holes. Built in the early 70s, the Royal Palms Golf Course spans 1,453 yards from its longest tees. The pricing is inexpensive with regular and twilight ratesand your second round is half off!
