Nasir Al Nasir Dr. Mike S. DuBose College Composition 1 20 April 2012 Salim is a New York cabbie and wannabe terrorist, Rob Schneider is as nasty as one would expect. It is not a big surprise that we are seeing Sandler in such a role again. In the movie You Dont Mess with the Zohan, everybody around him takes up the similar vulgar approach to their roles which results in inharmonious comedy and promotes feminine fashion, insensitive material (nudity and sexuality) and gender identity disorder among characters. Sandler plays as Zohan who is an Israeli James Bond in the movie and loves to disco and dreams secretly of moving to New York to become hair stylist. He has no interest in fighting and loves to spend time on beach naked with girls. He is kind of a superhero and laws of gravity do not apply on him but he still has to fight for his country. He fakes his death and moves to New York to live his dream and starts working for a Palestinian hairdresser named Dalia. He starts as a sweeper in the saloon and soon becomes the famous hair dresser there because he had a sensual method of washing women hair followed by sex in the backroom. If the method of his work was observed carefully it totally promoted insensitive material and gender identity disorder as he moved, dressed and had a hair style similar to that of women and people have posted their images and shown the world that they want to look like zohan(Alike). The middle section of the movie is filled with scenes of elderly women looking messy after they exit the back room where Zohan took them for

hair styling and instead of hair styling he had sex there. Zohan exhibits a slew of surprising markers, a fondness for Mariah Carey t-shirts and shortish shorts, and most especially, Paul Mitchell haircuts, silky smooth. In order to complete his self fulfillment he moves to New York and takes on an alias and tries to achieve success with his skills. Unable to comprehend the rejection he receives at the Paul Mitchell HQ, Zohan settles briefly for work at an Israeli electronics warehouse because of the help his fan Oori who agrees to keep his identity secret while noting that he wants to be transformed into hair homo. The humor in this movie is based primarily on sex, other bodily functions and, oddly, hummus due to which the movie raises moral issues. The character of Zohan is admired by lusty women and cheering men because he has excessively masculine and bizarrely athletic body. Zohan makes several sly sexual references to sexual acts and body parts. For example he says, My schnitzel is about to burst and My schnitzel will come out of your poopy. Even though he is being liked by everyone he is still unhappy. The fact that hes yearned since childhood to be a hairdresser drives his father to call him fagela and share a derisive giggle with Zohans mother. The son resists, assured of his heterosexuality despite his parents cruel pigeonholing, and so becomes another version of Sandlers het-male who represents for Gay Pride. Soon Zohan found a job on the other side of the street, at a beauty shop run by the Palestinian Dalia. At first, he keeps himself distracted from the fact that hes on this Arab side of the street by giving his old lady clients pink hair and irregular cuts, as well as rough sex sessions in the back room. Here he finds some weird community with his coworker Claude, who provides the queeny complement to Zohans colorful masculinity. The movie also shows vulgarity which is unsuitable for young teenagers when zohan starts to have sex with Michaels mother.

In this movie Zohan in order to make women comfortable starts wearing bright shirts and his hair style is almost like a woman. At this point Zohan starts to feel strong identification with the opposite sex and starts to feel comfortable around them. This kind of thing promotes gender identity disorders among the people who watch it because Sandler has a great fan following due to which young generation will start acting like him. The movie affects the viewers self image especially that of boys and will impact the persons mannerisms, behavior and dress (Gilmore). After watching this movie viewers start feeling discomfort with their actual anatomic gender if they start living their life according to this movie. Viewers especially boys will start using cosmetics and hormones to look lush like superstars do. This movie also promotes cosmetics and women fashion for men because we can clearly see that in the movie Zohan character feels very much comfortable with women around him and he does not want to fight in war. He was a soldier and soldiers should fight for their country but Zohan on the other hand, runs away from his duty where he changes his look and starts working on a hair salon. The use of sexuality in the movie by the character of Zohan for attracting the customers to the shop and then using sexuality as an added feature of the service also gives the message that adopting any behavior or set of characteristics which involves using sexuality unethically for materialistic gain is not ethically wrong. Zohan uses crude language to describe the body of an elderly woman whose hair he is cutting. The character of Zohan gives the feel of being modern as well as highly innovative in terms attracting customers by adopting these techniques. For example Zohans elderly clients talk about having sex with him. Zohan also uses crude language to describe sex with his elderly clients. As these techniques are shown as a part of humor and it is a known fact that humor is more inductive than normal message, and could be the cause of change in characteristics.

His dressing, hair style and methods of earning are completely changed at this point of the movie and this character of Zohan plays a vital role in causing gender identity disorder. Zohan was tired of violence due to which he faked his death and ran away to New York to live his dream which was becoming a hair dresser. He fulfilled his dream and changed his identity completely and started dressing and styling like women. The depicted characteristics of women by Zohan may possibly be adopted by viewers also because as we have seen in past young audience is affected by the way characters are presented in a movie. This kind of movie influences fashion among men and also has an impact on morality and beliefs. The movie is not suitable for young children because it promotes nudity and sexuality also. For example the opening scene, a beach barbecue contained images of several women wearing brief bikinis. During the scene Zohan is depicted naked with his crotch remaining obscured by bench tops. We see Zohans naked chest, legs, back and buttock with Zohan dancing and shaking his bare buttocks. The new character Zohan adopted apart from being milder and feminine was also much funnier as well as attractive. The movie clearly showed that how the characteristics which were feminine in nature impressed women and made the business grew at a much faster rate. The character of Zohan continued to adopt similar characteristics so that it can achieve the milestones of success in terms of impressing opposite gender and gain financial uphold and showed no regret whether he had to give away his gender identity and thus completely change his-self. For example all of Zohans clients are elderly woman. While he is shampooing hair, we see Zohan using his mouth and tongue to suck an earring from one clients ear. Zohan massages his clients hair in an erotic manner, licking one womans wet hair while dribbling shampoo from his mouth onto

another womans hair. We see a woman who is being attended by Zohan rubbing her hands on her body. Zohan washes womens hair in his boxer shorts with the clients putting dollar bills in the waistband. This kind of thing promotes morality and insensitive material and shows that none of this is ethically or morally wrong. Zohan in this movie promoted dressing of women as women want to wear shiny and bright clothes so he also wore shiny and bright clothes in order to make them feel comfortable and it also made him comfortable while working. This kind of dressing also promotes gender identity disorder because the first symptom of gender identity disorder is when a person starts to wear clothes like or similar to other gender. For example in the movie the character of Zohan always wears Marriah Carreys shirt or some bright dressing which women would want to wear. Movies now a day is promoting different things with the help of superstars. Zohans character promotes fashion and gender disorder in the movie. By watching this movie viewers especially boys will definitely want to dress up and move like Zohan did and girls will like to have their hair cut by guys who dress up bright like girls and move like girls and are more comfortable with girls but are not interested in having affairs with girls. The character of Zohan not only adopts the feminine characteristics but also insults the masculinity by dressing in a way which was not completely feminine but resembled like feminine dressing. He was mostly surrounded by gays and pretty Israeli boys. Apart from the fact that Zohan was male, he had adopted the feminine style of walking just to look the part of females and make his customer comfortable who were females. He also adopted girlish hairstyle to promote milder and peaceful aura.

In the end I would like to conclude by saying that You dont mess with the Zohan is a great comedy movie but the character of Zohan displayed characteristics those were feminine in nature. Our young generation follows everything blindly and Sandler has a great fan following due to which he would be again followed blindly. The character of Zohan was more interested in feminine activities rather than male activities as he used to walk, dance and dress like a woman. The movie promotes gender identity disorder, moral issues and sexuality and if our young generation keeps on following such movies then we would be facing problems like vulgarity and sexuality in our young generation. It is the responsibility of actors to whom our young generation adores to, not to promote such characters because teenagers follow whatever superstars do. If Sandler played the character of Zohan then I am pretty much sure about the fact that plenty of teenagers would have gone out on the street dressing like Zohan. If our young generation suffers from a problem like gender identity disorder then a professional diagnosis of the gender identity disorder is studied by studying the history of the person suffering from it. The person is carefully studied and his/her sexual attraction is determined that whether he or she is attracted to male or females or neither of them (Minter). Physical illness is also one of the causes of gender identity disorder because illness such as tumor could be fundamental reasons for such change in personality of that person. Laboratory tests are also conducted in order to find out the issue behind gender identity disorder (Manners). Such kind of things can spoil the life of a child and most of the times he becomes unfit for the society. So it is our responsibility to stop our young generation from being destroyed and avoid watching such films which promote gender identity disorder.

Before making a movie, it should be kept in mind that it would be watch by millions of people all around the world and followed by millions of fans. So it is the duty of directors and producers to make such movies which do not depict such characters which can cause harm to our coming generations because if they continue to make such movies which would promote abnormal behavior in the movie then people watching it would also try to follow it and soon will start suffering from different kind of issues in the life and will soon feel alone in their life.
