Sensor Installation on the AVM320-P(W)

Introduction
The following document details the procedure for the installation of a sensor into the frame of the AVM-
320P(W) flow meter.

Tools Required

• A set of large channel lock pliers

• 1” open end wrench

Procedure

1. Every sensor for the AVM320-P comes with a strain relief gland pre-installed on to its cable.
Remove the jam nut (see Figure 2) from this gland. Loosen the hub on the gland so that the
sensor cable can slide freely through the throat.

2. Route the connector on the end of the sensor cable through an open cable routing hole in the
base AVM320-P’s frame. Route the connector from the outside of the AVM320-P frame to the
inside where the Model 320 is located. Consult Figure 4 for the gland installation hole
designated for your particular sensor. Slide the gland along the sensor cable and push the
coarse threaded end of the strain relief gland into the open hole.

3. Slide the jam nut over the connector end of the sensor cable and thread the jam nut onto the
end of the gland protruding into the inside of the frame. Be sure to have the jam nut facing the
correct way, with the securing feet on the jam nut gripping the metal frame of the AVM320-P
(the stamped logos on the jam nut should be facing away from the AVM320-P frame). Tighten
the jam nut as far as possible by hand. Use the 1” wrench to turn the nut embedded in the body
of the strain relief gland to secure it into the frame of the AVM320-P.

4. Plug the sensor cable connector into appropriate Model 320 port and tighten the securing collar.
Leave a bit of slack in the sensor cable between the connector and the strain relief gland. Turn
the hub of the gland clockwise with the channel lock pliers to tighten the gland’s grip of the
sensor cable. Make sure that the cable does not slide freely through the throat of the gland by
giving the cable a slight tug.
