Crane Operation & Heavy Lifts Chart

Note-1 All crane lifts require licensed crane operator, valid safety sticker by an Inspection Department certified inspector for all electrical/engine powered crane Note-2 Obtain approved critical lift plan at site Obtain and follow Local Work Permit procedure Is it a Special Critical Crane Lift?

No

Is it a Crane Suspended Personnel Platform (Manbaskets)?

No

Is it a Night Crane Lift (any lift between No sunset and sunrise)? Go back to check other types

Is it a Special Critical Crane Lift?

No

Is it Blind Lift ?

Yes
De-rate all cranes involved in the lift by 25% of the load chart Utilize cranes of same size, manufacturer and model if possible (except tailing lift) for tandem and turning lifts Have separate approved critical lift plan on site prior to the lift, each time one of these type of lifts is performed

Yes
Should be allowed only if other conventional means would be more hazardous or not practical Go back to check other types Have the crane suspended personnel platform permit SA 9648 properly completed and signed on site prior to the lift De-rate the crane by 50% of the load chart Manbasket is not allowed when the wind speed exceeds 25 Km/h

Yes
Have Prior written approval from the facility planning manager for manbaskets operations performed at night except during Shutdown and T&I Have proper lighting sufficient to perform the lift easily

Yes
Have the on rubber and pick and carry duties stated on the manufacturers crane load chart for the duty to be acceptable option Have the crane operator confirm the proper recommended tires are fitted, sand tires are not acceptable

Yes
Have properly tested communication equipment if hand signals are not used Have established set of universal hand signals as back up communication system in case of failure of the original communication equipment Ensure all signalmen and crane operators are familiar with the hand signals If only hand signals are used, have clear visibility between all signalmen and crane operator

A Rigger-I is required to be in charge of actual lift coordination

Have the crane operator confirm the proper recommended tires pressure and tires are not obviously defected Have the travel surface level free of potholes and with acceptable ground condition. Travel speed should not exceed 4km/h Have the load secured to prevent any swing into the crane structure. Snubbing or tag lines shall be used.

Yes
The rig is allowed to use its draw works and one tailing crane to move the BHA on and off the rig floor. Only Saudi Aramco certified crane operators are allowed to operate

Yes
If working less than 1-1/2 fully extended boom length from energized power lines, designated signalman should ensure the minimum distances are maintained If Crane where boom or the attachment is working within 10 meters / 33 feet of railway line. Proponent Department should submit copy of railway train schedule with the completed critical lift plan form

Is it a High Risk Work Environment Crane Lift?

Is it drilling and workover operations involving bottom hole assemblies (BHA)?

No
Have Prior written approval from the facility planning manager for manbaskets operations performed at night (between sunset and sunrise)

Signalman if required shall wear a florescent vest and gloves to provide better visibility to the crane operator

Follow the travel procedures as specified by the contractor.

Saudi Aramco Critical Lift Plan (form SA9644 onshore/SA9672 offshore and Marine) shall be completed and signed by SA Certified Rigger-I

Safety Meeting shall be held before the beginning of BHA tailing operation to discuss the activity and personnel job duties and responsibilities

General:

Critical lift routinely performed in high risk environment (Plants, refineries/ pressurized piping
area should have related job standard or operation procedures modified to include blanket critical lift plan that specify required rigging and repetitive jobs.) should contact R&HED.

If the proponent department does not have in house capability to perform the critical lift The proponent has the authority to require an approved critical lift plan for crane lifts that
does not meet the mandatory requirements of all types above.

Crane Operation & Heavy Lifts Chart

Notes:
1. Personnel with certifications as rigger and crane operator CANNOT perform both functions at the same time. He is also not permitted to supervise the lift while operating the crane. Crane Operators Certificates must reference specific Make and Model of Crane operated. 2. The lift plan is prepared and signed by the originator

Types of Critical Lift Plans:

Blanket critical lift plan can be used if: Using same model and capacity of crane Working Same Location to lift the same piece of equipment The load configuration is identical Using the same lifting equipment and accessories Same rigging configuration Field verification has been performed by proponent supervisor (Sign and date top of critical Plan prior to crane lift ) Multiple Use Critical lift Plan Same model/ capacity of crane and location lifting assortment of different pieces of equipment Mane critical lift plan may be used provided that The most extreme radius, boom length and load weight are used in the calculations The same crane is used identified in the plan by ID number The certified crane operator and rigger who signed the plan are used The lift plan is not valid after 30 days of signature by Rigger-I. New plan should be obtained after 30 days

Crane operator, rigger and proponent supervisor are required to sign the plan Final review and approval shall be by Saudi Aramco Certified Rigger-I after physical examination of job site Rigger I must be present at site to supervise lifting operations requiring a Rigger-I
If repeated critical lift

Rigger-II and III may be allowed to perform identical lift at the same location under the same Critical Lift Plan without Rigger-I

supervision if: Rigger I Reviewed the Plan Conducted the initial lift Supervise others for the first subsequent lifts to verify their capabilities Give written permission on crane operator copy of the plan including his name, certification number and date that Rigger II and III can perform the\ routine lift Rigger I is not relieved from the responsibility by allowing other to perform the lift Only Rigger-I shall perform tandem lift, Lifts >40 tons, exceeding 85% of crane rated capacity, Working beside energized power lines and rubber Pick and carry operations
