Diploma in Business Marketing and Diploma in Business (Algonquin) Business Marketing Students in the Business Marketing program at Algonquin College learn all aspects of marketing, from product conception to consumption. The program provides both marketing theory and applied learning through a number of marketing courses, culminating with a comprehensive marketing plan project with an industry client in the fourth level. Ontario College Diploma 2 Year(s) Program Code:0214E01FWO Academic Year: 2011/2012 Our Program This two-year Ontario College Diploma program provides students with a specialization in marketing and a strong general education in business. Students receive an application-oriented education in all aspects of marketing from product conception to product consumption. In addition, students build mobile computing skills by interacting in a collaborative fashion with peers, project clients and course leaders. This collaborative environment allows graduates to immediately contribute in a meaningful way to an organization's marketing program using modern information technology tools. Students also benefit from the application of computing technology in the program through enhanced research abilities, collaborative learning, computer proficiency and improved communications skills. The program consists of four levels and is designed to provide both marketing theory and applied learning, culminating with a comprehensive marketing plan project with an industry client in the fourth level. Marketing-related studies include marketing to the consumer and business marketplace environment, marketing planning and decision making and global marketing. Marketing communications, marketing research, professional selling, sales management, and e-marketing and distribution are also covered in the curriculum. Learning assignments involve case studies, online discussion boards and research, role-playing, practical assignments and ongoing project work with industry partners. This is a mobile learning program which engages students in a collaborative, mlearning environment which helps them become skilled, confident users of the technology they are expected to use in the workplace. Your Career Graduates may be employed in a wide range of marketing activities, including sales (both business to business and retail), sales promotion, advertising, marketing research and planning, purchasing, customer service and product/brand management. They may work with domestic and international retailing, manufacturing, service and wholesaling firms, and in government departments and agencies. In addition to employment in the public and private sectors, some graduates may choose to open their own business. Ontario College Diploma 45 Week(s) Program Code:0306X04FPM Academic Year: 2011/2012 Our Program This two-year Ontario College Diploma program delivered in a compressed format over 45 weeks emphasizes the overall function of a business and how its success is the result of all areas and departments, such as finance, marketing, operations and human resources. Students learn the essential business skills of communication, customer-service, information technology, teamwork, problem solving and task-management. In addition, the program exposes students to the importance of ethics, demeanour and the professional practices that contribute to an individual's success in business. The curriculum covers all aspects of establishing, managing and operating both private and public organizations including accounting, management, marketing, entrepreneurship and business finance. Students use case work to support their learning, work on a variety of business-related projects, prepare proposals and complete a professional business plan that can serve as the blueprint for an actual business. Qualified students can participate in a summer work cooperative placement. Students gain realworld work experience and an opportunity to network and make contacts in the industry. The first instalment of $100 is payable at the time of registration for co-op and is non-refundable. The second instalment of $365 is payable on the standard fees due date. As of August 2007, students have an option of participating in a 385-hour co-op to gain some real-world work experience. The delivery of the diploma is still in a condensed form in a wireless laptop environment and students graduate after 16 months, of which four are designated for the coop experience.
