Notes From the Pastor: Happy Solemnity of Corpus Christi or the Most Holy Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus! The Body of Christ can be understood in three senses: physical, sacramental, and mystical. Physically, His glorified body has ascended back to the Father. Sacramentally, He stays with us really present in the Eucharist. Mystically, He is present in all of us as the Church, His body. Our second reading during the feast of the Ascension was very clear in saying and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body. (Ephesians 1:17-23) Twelve years ago, I read a result of a survey characterizing the kind of generation the world has at present. It came up with three characterizations: first, this generation is characterized as an absent generation. More and more people doesnt care of the common good anymore and has become more individualistic. Communities have become more urbanized that results in not even noticing who are the new faces in town. The advancement of technology caters to a situation where people could be more impersonal. Second, this generation is characterized as pleasure generation. What gives you pleasure is good. This is not true. Because not all that is pleasurable is moral, therefore it is evil. Third, this generation is characterized as divided generation. Sad to say, even among us catholic, there is division. How many people chose not to obey the teaching authority of the Church especially as regards controversial issues like natural family planning, contraception, euthanasia, etc.? Corresponding to each characterization is the Eucharist! As to the absent generation, the Eucharist is a sacrament of Presence. Presence is the first and foremost expression of love. Jesus is truly and really present in the Eucharist and is Gods expression of love for us! As to the pleasure generation, the Eucharist is a sacrament of Sacrifice! The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, suffered and died for us and rose from the dead and took us all to Himself. As we receive the Eucharist, the body and blood of Jesus will give us strength to sacrifice our own pleasures. As to this divided generation, the Eucharist is the sacrament of Communion! Christ has been praying that we will be one with Him, just as He and the Father are one! May we be able to cooperate in the grace of the body and blood of Jesus that we may learn to accept each others differences and forgive each others faults, that we will no longer be divided but united in Christ! Based on the above considerations, well disposed reception of and increase devotion to the Next Sunday(6/17/2012) 10:00 AM T. Paoni, E. Wilson, M., M., M. Adams, M. Murphy *** Marilyn McCracken Michelle Puckett Scott & Beth Wilson Family Eucharist can really help strengthen our spiritual life and help us become more like Christ. What you eat makes you what you are. Becoming like Christ, like the apostles, will empower us to fulfill our mission. How many people have you heard complain about this or that about the Church? Have these complainants done something about it? One of the most important things we can do is to pray about it, and there is no greater prayer than at the Eucharistic Adoration. Of course God is everywhere, but He manifested His presence especially in the Eucharist. If you believe that Jesus is really present in the Eucharist, pay Him a visit! I am sure Hell be glad to see you! May the Blessed Eucharist continue to bless us all! Fr. Roger NEW Parish Website We now have a web page for our parish! You can find it at: stmichaelgirard.com. More Thoughts on the Blessed Trinity Last week, we observed the Feast of the Holy Trinity. We heard and read a lot about it and we were told that perhaps only God really understands it. A possible way to better understand the Trinity is to compare it to the human soul. Our soul is the highest matter that God made on earth. It is a spiritual substance, alive in each of us and often referred to as the mind. It is that bit of Christ that is in all of us. God seems to work in threes, as we study the Bible. There are three Persons in One God (the Trinity), and there are three Powers in the human Soul: Memory, Intellect, and Will. During my years of teaching religion at St. Marys-Colgan, this was undoubtedly one of the most difficult to explain. 1) Memory-contains everything youve learned thus far in your life. It is a passive power, or some say, the souls absorbing mechanism. When death comes, the soul leaves the body, and it departs with the knowledge that you have given it during your lifetime. Through our senses (eyes, ears, etc.), we feed our soul. The senses are often referred to as the windows of the soul. This is why I always emphasized to students to study Gods truths, learn about the Trinity, study the saints lives, and fill your memory bank with good truths. The power of memory remains with us; eternity is a long time. 2) Intellect is the second power of the soul. While the memory is known as passive, the last two--intellect and will--involve thinking powers that call for action. The intellect seeks Truth and often asks, Is that true?. It will come to a decision on that basis. Intellect isnt the same as memory, for we dont think with our memory. The intellect decides what is to be remembered. 3) Will is the third power of the soul and could be described as our conscience. The object of the Will is good and achieving it. The Will asks, Is it good? The voice we hear (or argue with) during difficult moral decisions is the will of our soul, trying to steer us to the good. That free will decides whether you will love God or not, whether you will attend Mass regularly or not, or if you will choose to do good. The Will ultimately judges the intellect. These are the three Powers of the soul. They are distinct, but not separate, much like the Blessed Trinity.

Choose Life As we enter ever more fully into the brave new world of creating the children of our choosing, we need to look at the consequences of these actions: The pricey manufacture of custom kids (by genetic enhancement) would in fact undermine the value and dignity of human life by reducing these children to customized products like cars or computers. Rather than surprise and appreciation for the uniqueness and mystery of each individual, custom-made children would be judged by how they conform to preset specifications.
