Using USB Internet Dongles on ME Tablet X1

Step by step procedure to connect to internet on ME X1 Tablet using an USB Internet Dongle
Things you will need 1. ME X1 tablet 2. A USB Internet Dongle (from among the list of compatible USB dongles provided in Appendix B below) 3. USB Dongle adapter (Mini-B plug to Standard-A receptacle) Step 1: Press the Menu Button

Step 2: Select the Settings option.

Step 3: In the following screen, select the Wireless & Networks option.

Step 4: Check if Wi-Fi is currently connected. Wi-Fi and internet dongle cannot be operated simultaneously. If Wi-Fi is already turned off, skip to Step 7.

Step 5: If Wi-Fi is currently connected, turn off Wi-Fi by selecting the "Wi-Fi" option as shown here.

Step 6: Once Wi-Fi is turned off, the Wi-Fi status will be as shown here.

Step 7: Connect your USB dongle to the ME X1 tablet using the USB dongle adapter.

Step 8: Now, enable 3G by selecting the "3G" option.

In about 1-2 minutes, the signal strength indicator will show up on the status bar (to the left of the battery status indicator as shown here).
If you don't see the signal strength indicator even after a while, your internet dongle is probably not able to establish connection with your ISP's network tower. You will need to check the internet dongle or try again later.

Step 9: Select Mobile Networks.

Step 10: Select Access Point Names. Also ensure, "Data enabled" option is switched on.If not, switch it on by selecting the same. In case you are on roaming, you will also need to switch on the "Data roaming" option.

Step 11: Upon selecting Access Point Names, blank screen will be displayed as shown here. Press Menu button

Step 12: Select "New APN"

Step 13: Enter data card specific Information in the fields provided Appendix Abelow has this information for various commonly used dongles.

Step 14: Once you are done entering the data card specific information, press Menu button

Step 15: Select the Save option to save the entered settings

Step 16: Now, you will see the APN you just created in the list of APNs as shown here. Select the radio button next to it to enable it. Once enabled, the radio button will go green asshown here

Step 17: About 1-2 minute's time after the APN is enabled, the status bar will show the 3G logo as shown here. This indicates that the internet connection has been successfully established. Your ME X1 tablet is now connected to the internet.

Note: In case, if there is delay in establishing connection or loss of connectivity, then try disabling 3G option, wait for 30 seconds and enable 3G option again (as in Step 8)

In a few types of dongles, the ME X1 will notify you to enter APN details in the notification bar. Upon selecting this option from the notification bar, as shown here, you will be prompted to enter details as per the type of dongle.
