STUDENT COUNSELLORS (STUDENT SUPPORT)

Student counsellors provide students with advice, counselling and information about study methods, choice of study programme, questions regarding their studies and being a student, and practical subjects as well as personal matters or problems.
Student counsellors can assist students with questions and problems relating to the student personally as well as his or her studies. It is their job to help you nd answers to your questions and solutions to your problems in personal and condential interviews. If another person or institution is better able to help you with your problem, the student counsellors can refer you accordingly. Student counsellors are also responsible for handling complaints about the conduct or actions of employees and organisational aspects of the university in relation to students (ombudsman function). One of the student counsellors is the condential counsellor for students in matters regarding sexual harassment, aggression and violence. Matters in which the student counsellors can provide advice, counselling and information include: Personal questions and problems; Choice of study programme, planning and motivation but also study method (e.g. effective study skills, preparing for interim examinations, falling behind in studies and switching to another programme); Student grants and loans; Financial support; Accommodation; Assistance in appeal proceedings; Top-level sport: making alternative arrangements in the event a top athlete is unable to take an interim examination on the given date; Disability: if an impairment or chronic illness forms an obstacle to the students study progress, the student can ask a student counsellor to make the necessary provisions. An interview with a student counsellor is strictly condential. You can make an appointment with a student counsellor through the Erasmus Student Service Centre (010 - 408 2323). For more information, please visit http://www.eur.nl/english/essc/advice_counselling/ professional/counsellors/.

UNIVERSITY PSYCHOLOGISTS (STUDENT SUPPORT)

If you would like to talk with a psychologist you can make an appointment through the ESSC. The purpose of this interview is to clarify the complaints or issues and to give advice tailored as much as possible to the problem in hand. A possibility is that the psychologist may recommend individual therapy in order to better understand the underlying problem so that it gets less in the way of studying. If the University psychologists cannot provide the right kind of help they can refer you to the appropriate support services. Naturally, everything that is discussed remains strictly condential.

It is not uncommon for students to experience problems during their studies. This is sometimes caused, for example, by having to adjust to independent living, relationships that are not going well or events that are difcult to process. Often it is not exactly clear whether study-related or personal difculties are the cause or the consequence of the problem. One thing is clear: a vicious cycle has been created. The University psychologists can help to break this cycle.

CAREERS ADVISOR (STUDENT SUPPORT)

The transition from study to a career is not always easy, so it is a good idea to prepare yourself for this step in good time. It is also wise to think carefully about your choice if you are contemplating a Masters degree.
You can do this by exploring the job market and considering your opportunities on the job market. If you feel you could use some advice in this area you can make an appointment with the careers advisor of Erasmus University Rotterdam. Go to http://www.eur.nl/english/ essc/advice_counselling/professional/careers_advisor/ contact/. Examples of what you can discuss with the careers advisor during a condential interview include: identifying your personal characteristics, qualities, desires and expectations; exploration of the job market, job application, networking, preparing for psychological tests and/or assessment centre methods and salary negotiation. You can also take career-related courses or workshops: job application letter and CV; job interview training; choice of Masters degree programme; job market and disability; career coaching trajectories for bi-cultural / ethnic Master students and alumni; individual career coaching trajectory for Master / third year Bachelor students with a disability. There are also English-language workshops for international students: how to write a successful application letter and CV; how to prepare for a job interview. An interview with a student counsellor is strictly condential. You can make an appointment with the careers advisor at http://www.eur.nl/english/essc/ advice_counselling/professional/careers_advisor/contact/.

INTERNSHIPS Students can benet from internships by receiving handson experience and learning professional skills that will enhance their degree and help prepare them for a successful career. Within the Business Administration curriculum students can choose to do a Bachelor internship in their third year, and frequently internships are used as a substantial element to complete the Master thesis. Your own initiative in nding an internship is crucial. To be fully notied of any internship opportunities in the Netherlands, abroad and in the Netherlands but for nonDutch speakers, students are advised to register to the SIN Online Career Services channel. Simultaneously all offers are posted on the Career Services website www.rsm.nl/students/careerservices. Because there are dozens of students not just from RSM competing for the best internship opportunities, students will need to prepare for their search months in advance. A good start is to attend a Career Services CV Session. It helps you develop your application by giving feedback on the curriculum vitae and cover letter. INTERNATIONAL OFFICE
During your studies at RSM there is the opportunity to spend one term at one of our 100 partner schools all over the world. These exchanges are facilitated within our Bachelor and Master Exchange Programme (see also: www.rsm.nl/international). Once a year (January - March) a selection procedure takes place for exchanges in the next academic year.

Most important selection criteria are: Progress and minimum weighted grade of 6.5 in (non) RSM Bachelor Programme as well as the grades obtained at RSM so far. The higher the grades the better chances for the most popular exchange destinations. Language skills are needed for an exchange abroad. For partner schools of which the teaching language is English, the exit level of B2.2 is required, for other languages this exit level is B2.1 The EUR Language and Trainings Centre offers language courses and test to reach the required language levels, see also http://www.eur.nl/english/ltc/ language_courses/ In addition the selection is also based on your extra-curricular activities, motivation and impression during the interview. From October onwards the new brochure Study Abroad Guidelines will be available. It is recommended to read this brochure carefully prior to application.

STUDENT REPRESENTATION (SR)

The most important tasks of the SR are looking after the individual and collective student interests as well as guarding the quality of education at RSM. This is achieved by assisting in the organisation of the education and participating in course evaluations. Next to this, the SR is aiming at actively improving the education, to stimulate the contact between students and teaching staff and to think along about the future of the faculty as well as university as a whole.
In order to accomplish these goals, the SR coordinates the students that are part of different faculty- and university organs. The Student Representatives play an essential role in guarding the educations quality. The representatives serve as a link between the professor and students. This way the feedback and communication process is facilitated enabling the preservation of the programs quality. During the trimester, the representatives meet with the professors and convey the students bundled feedback and work on improvements which enhance the overall quality of the course. You can contact the representatives with questions, comments and suggestions which you can submit via the forum, e-mail, a complaint form or by stopping at the ofce (T5-54). Furthermore, the SR has its own SIN-Online channel which serves as an information platform about all possible developments as well as the outcomes of course evaluations. In the forum students can moreover actively discuss the different courses. At the beginning of each academic year, the SR is looking for new student representatives as well as members for internal committees and councils. For further information, you can contact the SR under the below presented contact details. Lastly, in May, each RSM student has the opportunity to vote for a student member of the faculty- and university council and can also run for one of these positions.

STAR Management Week: this weeklong, nationwide showcase event is considered our annual pinnacle as it constitutes a signicant interface between students, academia and our corporate network.
