Product A carbodiimide modified 4,4-methylenediphenyldiisocyanate. Appearance ONGRONAT 3800 is a pale yellow coloured liquid at room temperature. Application area With suitable polyols ONGRONAT 3800 can be used as the isocyanate component for producing microcellular elastomers, RIM elastomers, coatings and cast elastomers. Typical property range NCO content Viscosity (at 25 C) Other physical properties Density (at 25 C) Flash point Transport and packaging In tank road tankers, 1000 l containers, 250 kg non-returnable metal drums, or in metal cans under nitrogen blanket. Storage It is recommended to store ONGRONAT 3800 at room temperature (20-30C). Under these conditions the shelf life of the ONGRONAT 3800 is four months. The material must be kept dry at all times. It must be protected from water ingress and atmospheric moisture. In order to protect the material from the latter, a dry inert gas blanket (nitrogen) with a dew point of -40C must be applied to the containers (drums or storage tanks). Dry air is not recommended for this purpose because it will cause oxidation. At prolonged storage below 20 C partial crystallisation of the ONGRONAT 3800 may occur. The product can be melted out again by heating it cautiously but as rapidly as possible, preferably in a hot air oven. The product temperature should not exceed 70C.It is important that the material is thoroughly mixed after the melt-out. Above 150 C a slow, exothermic decomposition reaction takes place which becomes extremely fast above 250 C. Safety precautions All activities related to isocyanate handling are potential sources of danger; therefore special care must be taken when working with it. Handle the material with care. Avoid contact with water and damp. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Do not inhale the vapours of the product. Detailed safety information available in the specific Material Safety Data Sheet.
