Preamble: Ahora DePaul aims to educate the DePaul community and society on what it means to be Latino. We seek to contribute to the movement for Latino student journalism, for we are the voices of the Latino community at DePaul. Our mission is to tell the stories and struggles that affect our people. By establishing this publication we hope to unite the Latino community through words and our journalistic ambitions. Motto: The more I know, the more I grow. The bigger the heart, the bigger soul. Article I @hora DePaul Article II MEMBERSHIP Unless otherwise specifically authorized by the University, membership in this organization is open to all DePaul students and alumni who are in good standing with the University (have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above). Unless otherwise specifically authorized by the University, membership will not be restricted on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital status, physical or mental disability, parental status, housing status, source of income, or military status. As a member, one is required to attend organization meetings consistent with the policy indicated by the executive board, pay dues if required, and actively support organization projects. Membership may be revoked by e-board decision. Article III STRUCTURE A. Executive Board 1. The Executive Board shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. B. Article IV GENERAL OPERATIONS A. Minimum Meeting Schedule 1. Executive Board a. Will meet weekly. 2. General Body Meetings a. Bi-weekly. B. Procedure and Voting 1. Procedure a. Meetings will be run by Roberts Rules of Order. 2. Voting a. All members have the power to vote. Members can bring issues to the e-board. The e-board can then present issues that members can vote on. C. Committees 1. Committees will adapt per the needs of the publication.

Article V ELECTION OF OFFICERS A. Executive Board and Ex-Officio Members 1. When will elections take place? 2. How will elections take place, hand raise, secret ballot, Web voting?

Example: All candidates must meet the following requirements that may be waived with approval of the Executive Board with the exceptions of b, d, : a. Must have lived in the residence halls for one year. b. Minimum 2.5 cumulative Grade Point Average. c. Participation in GROUP NAME for a minimum of one academic year. d. Must be a current student e. All Executive Board candidates must have served on the Senate for at least one year. g. Must be in good judicial standing with Residential Education and DePaul University at the discretion of the Advisor; specifically not being found responsible for more than one policy violation. B. Other Members 1. How will you elect other members? Will you have elections, or can they just join? Again, what are the requirements for these members. Article VI RESIGNATION OF OFFICERS A. Executive Board 1. What is the process of resignation from their position? Once again, the more clear you are, the less questions that will arise. B. Other Members 1. Same as above Article VII APPOINTMENTS A. Executive Board 1. What happens if a position is open past elections? How will you appoint your new officers or members? Article VIII DISCIPLINE AND IMPEACHMENT PROCEDURES A. What does you impeachment process look like? How will you handle the situation, does it need to go through committees? Brought through the executive board? Or is it taken directly to your general body/assembly meetings. The more clear this is set up, the easier your life will be.

Changes to the consittution can be proposed by any established member of @hora and can be brought to vote by the organization A. What is the process to amending your constitution?

Article X FINANCES A. Where does your funding come from and what are the rules on spending it? The organization may establish reasonable dues that must be paid by all members in order to remain a member in good standing. The amount of the dues will be determined in the beginning of the academic year by the Executive Committee and presented to the general membership for a vote. Dues must be paid by (include a week in the quarter). The treasurer shall maintain all financial records and shall countersign with the president for all organization transactions. Article XI ADVISORS A. Eric Mata and Elizabeth Martinez B. The Advisor shall be a full-time faculty or staff member at DePaul University. The Advisor will assume those responsibilities as outlined in this constitution and/or found in the Student Life Handbook. The advisor will be selected by a majority vote of the Executive Committee and

then presented to the general membership for a second majority vote of approval. Advisors not fulfilling the responsibilities detailed in the Advisor Handbook or not abiding by the organizations purpose may be removed from the position by a majority vote of the Executive Committee. Appendix I EXECUTIVE BOARD POSITIONS A. All Executive Board positions include the following responsibilities: 1. Discuss what the responsibilities of all the Executive Board as a whole are, the shared duties. B. President EXAMPLES: 1. Acts as chief executive officer to GROUP NAME. 2. Presides at all meetings 3. Is held accountable for any and all actions made by any GROUP NAME member within the organization. 4. Directly oversees the GROUP NAME. 5. Shall meet regularly with advisors as designated by the Advisors. 6. Responsible for actively furthering unity within the Executive Board. 7. Responsible for communicating with outside organizations. C. Vice PresidentEXAMPLES: 1. Acts as President if President is unable to attend meetings or functions. 2. Serves as chair for the Elections and Appointments Committee. 3. Responsible for a minimum of one GROUP NAME training, leadership or team building program a quarter. 4. Responsible for delegating or serving as unfilled E-board and Ex-officio positions. 5. Submits program evaluations to secretary for historical documentation. D. Secretary EXAMPLES: 1. Assists with and coordinates general administrative duties for GROUP NAME. 2. Responsible for recording General Council and Executive Board minutes and distributing minutes to all bodies within one week. 3. Coordinator of GROUP NAME monthly calendar of events. 4. Maintains membership files, attendance, and minutes and serves as a historian. 5. Reserves facilities for meetings and notifies members of said meetings. 6. Serves as GROUP NAME manager by facilitating coordination of a professional work environment. 7. Will provide the Vice President with a biweekly attendance report. PLEASE KEEP A COPY FOR YOUR RECORDS! 8. Shall serve as parliamentarian for the organization and is to know the procedures ofRoberts Rules of Order and the GROUP NAME Constitution. E. Treasurer EXAMPLES: 1. Communicates biweekly with the E-Board and advisor(s) on the financial standing ofGROUP NAME and works in conjunction with the advisor on points 3-5. 2. Maintains and reports status of GROUP NAME budget including monthly communication of updated budget. 3. Coordinates with advisor(s) on the return of GROUP NAME reimbursements within 5 business days of receiving all necessary paperwork for amounts less than $100. 4. Coordinates with advisor(s) on the of submit GROUP NAME reimbursements to the procurement office within 10 business days of receiving all necessary paperwork for amounts greater than $100. 5. Coordinates with advisor(s) with the handling of purchase orders, travel requests numbers, and getting voucher check.

Deadlines Publications will be printed on a monthly basis. Each month will have a specific theme. The weekly meetings will serve as a way to monitor progress and collaborate. The following outlines the structure of our weekly meetings, as well as the consequences of failing to comply: Week 1: IDEA PROPOSALS and BRAINSTORMING Members should come to the meeting with ideas that contribute to the theme of the month. Any members who do not come ready with ideas, can take part in a brainstorming session. Week 2: ROUGH DRAFT and PROGRESS REVIEW

Each member will present his or her work in progress; specifically, a presentation of resources and a rough draft. This session will also serve as a way to help each other with the process. Failure to comply will result in a verbal warning. Week 3: FINAL COPY SUBMISSION

The final copy must be submitted on this date. Failure to do so within 24 hours will result in a disciplinary strike. Week 4: OFFICER MEETING/ FINAL MAGAZINE LAYOUT

Officers and editors will meet to finalize the magazine. Any submissions after this date will not be accepted. Members that fail to submit by this date will be put on mandatory probation.

Election of Officers Elections will be held on the seventh week of the Spring Quarter. Academic Responsibility All members of Ahora DePaul must maintain a 2.75 GPA to maintain active membership. Members must hand in final quarterly grades. Disciplinary Standards Verbal Warning: Serves to remind a member of their academic and organizational commitment as part of Ahora DePaul. Disciplinary Strike: Three disciplinary strikes result in probation. Probation: A member that is put on probation will not be allowed to contribute to the next months publication. Amendments Changes to the constitution will be conducted in accordance to Roberts Rules of Order.
