Gymnastics is an oldest demonstration sport and very popular

Olympic game which requires agility, strength, flexibility, stamina, boldness


and balance performances. It is on a gymnasium and classified either individual
or collective game according to a form of Gymnastics.

Its history dated back to ancient time like Egypt, Roman and
especially in Greece where many events held in a place called Olympia. At that
time, gymnasts, Who were called “Gymnos “in Greek language, were
participating and exercising in many Gymnastics activities like jumping ,
climbing and horse mounting and dismounting for several purposes ;like
entertaining their nobilities , gaining prizes, body building , showing strength,
agility , flexibility and also for military training.

The new Modern Gymnastics started by the foundation of the


Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG), in 1881. It is responsible for all
competitions, regulations and the development of some conditions like age,
time, and code of points (score system) .Moreover, Athletes start exercising in
their early age to form high levels in order to be selected by their coaches for
Olympic Games or World Championships.

Gymnasts may suffer from having many injuries and


pains because of risks and incredible actions they
performed. Among them, a hand rips which is caused by
friction on some apparatus like Rings, Pommel-horse and
Parallel-bars. Therefore, they either wear Grips to protect
their hands from rips or rub them by chalk to keep them
dry and minimize the affection.

There are five different kinds of this game:

1- Artistic gymnastics :
This kind of sport is divided into men’s and women’s
Gymnastics .Men compete by showing routines on six
several events using many apparatus like , vault ,

compete on just four events like: floor, balance

2- Rhythmic gymnastics :
It is women sport that played
individually or in a team on a
square area of12m long by 12m
wide .They exercised on many
types of apparatus like, ropes,
hoop, clubs, ribbon and ball. It is
more dance and flexibility than
strength.

3- Trampoline and Trampling :

This game requires a trampoline to help the


trampolinist reaches heights of 10 meters while
doing many actions .it has many types, namely
Individual, Synchronized and Double Mini
Trampoline.

4- Aerobics :
It is a group of athletes without any apparatus
who perform routines and coordination of
movements on floor using hands, head and feet. It is
also accompanied with music for rhythm.

5- Acrobatics( or acro sport):

It is a floor sport which involves a team of acrobats


who perform routines, without any apparatus, like
handstands, back flips, cartwheels, headstand and
many shapes like pyramid and bridges for
entertainment of audience and showing fitness.
