Hazrat Sultan Bahu:

Hazrat Sultan Bahu is a great Muslim thinker, a respected scholar, the most enduringly beloved and influential poet and a charismatic leader of 17th century. He is a mentor, reformer, healer for mankind; his anticlerical and spirit-filled message resonate for Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus no matter alive or dead, fortunate or unfortunate, believer or non-believer. He has around 40 plus books (Persian), and an eloquent and inspirational Punjabi poetry and prose called Abyat (which constitutes the central pillar of Sufi order literary tradition of now called Pakistan) to his credit on the subject of Tasawoof particularly the focal area of Faqr. He himself is an absolute Faqir. He describes numerous qualities of a true Faqir. Among them Leadership quality is the most prominent and inspiring for all the time. The very purpose of this paper is also the same i.e., Dimensions of Leadership: in the life and works of Hazrat Sultan Bahu. Leaders are role models. Hazrat Sultan Bahu believes Prophet Muhammad his mentor, leader, murshid (a spiritual guide) and what not. He says that Faqir cannot be a Faqir unless he completely follows the Sharia; the principles and practice of Holy Prophet Muhammad. One of his books, Aqle- Bedar carries a heading Philosophy of Zahir and Batin where he differentiates Ulemas from Faqirs by narrating ( page # 104) as follow: An Alim tells (advises) you but Faqir shows how to do. It means that Faqir possesses the qualities of a leader, who demonstrates how to do things an action, as a guide or role model. Exactly the same attributes differentiates a manager, who gives advices, from a leader, who shows by doing things himself. During his entire life Hazrat Sultan Bahu practiced Sharia, the way of Holy Prophet Muhammad. The paper may explore available works of Hazrat Sultan Bahu and shall interpret the works in the light of Leadership Dimensions, as one of the examples, illustrated in foregoing para.
