CEFALEXIN

Semi synthetic antibiotic derivatives produced by a fungus.

Inhibitions of cell wall synthesis, enzyme breakdown of the cell wall, inhibition of the enzyme in the synthesis of the cell wall.

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins ; Hypersensitivity to penicillins; pseudomembranous colitis; renal failure; pregnancy and lactation.

Susceptible infections including skin, urinary and respiratoy tract infections ; Prophylaxis of recurrent UTI

MEFENAMIC ACID

A nonsteroidal antiinflammato ry drug used to treat pain, including m enstrual pai n

It inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins by suppressing the cyclooxygenase enzyme.

Patients in whom aspirin, iodides, or any NSAID has caused allergic-type reactions; preexisting renal disease; active ulceration or chronic inflammation of GI tract.

Relief of moderate pain lasting less than 1 wk; treatment of primary dysmenorrhea .

Gastric upset, ulcerations, gastroesophageal reflux disease, GI bleeding & renal damage.

FERROUS SULFATE

Provides the iron needed by the body to produce red blood cells. It is used to treat or prevent irondeficiency anemia.

Advise patient to take medicine as prescribed. Caution patient to make position changes slowly to minimize orhtostatic hypotension. Advise patient to consult physician if irregular heartbeat, dyspnea, swelling of hands and feet and hypotension occurs. Inform patient that angina attacks may occur 30 min. after administration due reflex tachycardia. Encourage patient to comply with additional intervention for hypertension like proper diet, regular exercise, and lifestyle changes and stress management.

VITAMIN C

It acts as an oxidant, a cofactor in enzymatic reactions, and other metabolic reactions. Vitamin C is classified as a vitamin.

Assists in collagen formation, tissue repair; involved in oxidation reduction reactions, other metabolic reactions. It is involved in metabolism; carbohydrate utilization; synthesis of lipids, proteins, carnitine. It also preserves blood vessel integrity.

Caution if renal impairment.

Vitamin C is used for prevention and treatment of scurvy, acidification of urine, dietary supplement, prevention of and reduction in the severity of colds.

May give without regard to food. Assess for clinical improvement (improved sense of well-being and sleep patterns). Observe for reversal of deficiency symptoms (gingivitis, bleeding gums, poor wound healing, digestive difficulties, joint pain).
