An insight into the ministry of LCMS missionary Megan Birney serving Christ in Hong Kong

Spring/Summer 2012

The first half of 2012 has flown byand the joy of the Lord has been present among our brothers & sisters in Asia! Heres are some highlights of the past few months January: Over 60 CAN volunteers ministered to the homeless population in HK through the annual Street Sleepers Party. We distributed clothes, snacks, and a hot meal along with the gift of song and a message of hope to every guest. See the photo at bottom. February: As an equipping church that frequently sends our members to every corner of the earth, CAN began a series called SHAPE with many short-term small groups. A great study in equipping saints for service along with encouragement in building up the CAN community! March: I took CANs 2nd team to work with Concordia Childrens Services in Manila, Philippines. Nine servants spent 5 days working with children at the orphanage feeding & playing with babiesalong with doing some renovation projects. We also spent time doing a VBS program for the Urban Street Kids program that CCS organizes. Check out my photos with my buddies Gwen & Esteban to the right! April: CAN celebrated 50 years of ministry in Hong Kong! There was a great celebratory service and luncheon on April 22nd. We also volunteered at CLSNP American Funfairsharing American cultural alongside the Gospel message for students. To the right, me with students Jennifer & Simon volunteering at the fair. May: Confirmation! Jackson, Emi, Lindsey, Shayla, Noah, & Emilee confirmed their faith through their affirmation statements. So proud of these awesome kids and how the Lord has grown their faith this year! June: End-of-the-year activitiesthe past few weeks have brought graduations, celebrations, and plenty of goodbyes. Including a scavenger hunt across HK for my middle school students! Im overjoyed at how the Lord has moved this school yearand look forward to what awaits for the 2012/2013 year! For this reason, I kneel before the Father Eph. 3:14 For the community of Church of All Nations and Hong Kong International School CAN outreach & community building programming for the Fall Our VBS outreach programAugust 7-10 For the Lutheran Church - Hong Kong Synod (LCHKS); that the Lord would continue blessing the efforts of the LCHKS in growing Gods kingdom. Theological Education in Africa; The CLET in Dapaong, Togo and Lutheran Theological Seminary in Pretoria, South Africa That the Lord would continue to raise up ministry partners in prayer and financial gifts for my continued service in Hong Kong. For individuals considering serving on the international mission field; courage and strength to heed the Lords call and say "Here am I. Send me!" My fellow LCMS missionaries serving internationally, for the opportunity & strength to live out Christs love through service around the worldespecially new missionaries attending orientation & entering the field this summer/fall!
