Tip 1: Keep it Simple


The first, most important rule The best designs contain two or three elements:
a striking photograph or visual a large headline an "identifier"

Communicate concisely:
as few words as possible

Concept of First Read
A focal point that commands attention Ideally, bold statement or interesting graphic

Initial caps (vs. all caps) to increase glance legibility and lower reading time. Utilize line spacing variation

White-space = surface area of a sign's face left uncovered by text or graphics The proper amount of white space is just as important for quick readability as are graphics, text, and colors. General rule= 1/3 face area should be white space
