OVERVIEW of PRINCIPAL/ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL EVALUATION

TYPES OF EVALUATIONS:
There are two types of evaluations for building principal/assistant principals: a Comprehensive Evaluation and a General Evaluation. New principals/assistant principals receive a Comprehensive Evaluation for the first three (3) years. Experienced principals (3+ years) new to a building or new to the District receive a Comprehensive Evaluation for the first year. Principals/Assistant Principals whose performance falls below Proficient in any domain on an evaluation will be placed on the Comprehensive Evaluation cycle. All others are on the General Evaluation cycle.

COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION PROCESS (CEP) AND TIMELINE


JULY 1 OCTOBER 31:
Review evaluation process, District Strategic Plan, the Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP), and school-based data. Conduct goal setting conference collaborative meeting between principal/assistant principal and supervisor/evaluator to develop goals for the year. Goal Setting form, see Appendix A. Make school visit (additional visits will be made as needed). Provide feedback via the Site Visit/Progress Monitoring Form (See Appendix B). Conduct annual training for the evaluation process. (See page 10, 2b).

NOVEMBER JANUARY 31:


Make school visit (additional visits will be made as needed). Provide feedback via the Site Visit/Progress Monitoring Form (See Appendix B). Mid-Year Evaluation for Comprehensive Evaluations A full evaluation using the Principal/Assistant Principal Leadership Evaluation Summary form will be conducted. If the rating on the mid-year evaluation for any Domain is Unsatisfactory, the principal/assistant principal will be placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) designed to address the areas rated Unsatisfactory. The PIP (See Appendix E) will be created and finalized with the principal/assistant principal and his/her representative within fifteen (15) working days after the mid-year evaluation. If the rating on the mid-year evaluation for any domain is Basic, the principal and the supervisor will co-develop a Support Plan (See Appendix D) designed to address the areas rated Basic. If Domains 4 and/or 5 on the assistant principal evaluation are rated Basic the supervisor will co-develop a Support Plan designed to address the areas rated Basic.

FEBRUARY JUNE 30
End-of-Year Evaluation for Comprehensive Evaluations A full evaluation using the Principal Evaluation Form will be conducted. If the rating on the end-of-the-year evaluation for any domain is Unsatisfactory, the principal/assistant principal will be placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) designed to address the areas rated Unsatisfactory , unless the principal/assistant principal was previously placed on a PIP and decision to change his/her contract status was made by May 15. (See Appendix E) Principals/assistant principals review evidence and reflect with evaluator throughout the year and at the final evaluation conference. Monitor and provide feedback to principals/assistant principals on Support Plans or PIPs as appropriate. Notify a principal/assistant principal of any decision to change his/her employment contract status by May 15.

JUNE AUGUST 15:


PIPs created and finalized for principals/assistant principals receiving a rating of Unsatisfactory for any Domain on their annual evaluation.

GENERAL EVALUATION PROCESS (GEP) AND TIMELINE


AUGUST OCTOBER 31:

Mid-Year Reflection for General Evaluations A mid-year reflection using the Site Visit/Progress Monitoring Form will take place to discuss progress towards goals. Mid-Year move to Comprehensive Evaluation cycle If the principals/assistant principals performance at mid-year is deemed less than proficient/basic according to the performance schedule, the principal/assistant principal will be moved to the Comprehensive cycle with the appropriate Support or Performance Improvement Plan in place.

FEBRUARY - JUNE 30

If Domains 4 and/or 5 on the assistant principal evaluation are rated Basic the supervisor will co-develop a Support Plan designed to address the areas rated Basic. Principals/assistant principals review evidence and reflect with evaluator throughout the year and at the final evaluation conference. Monitor and provide feedback to principals/assistant principals on Support Plans or PIPs as appropriate. Notify a principal/assistant principal of any decision to change his/her employment contract status by May 15.

JUNE AUGUST 15:


PIPs created and finalized for principals/assistant principals receiving a rating of Unsatisfactory for any Domain on their annual evaluation. Support Plans created for principals receiving Basic in any domain and for assistant principals receiving Basic in domains 4 and/or 5.
