Basic Job Information Posting Title: Business Strategist Business Unit/Section: Community Services & Protective Services/Strategic Initiatives Location: 800 MacLeod Trail S.E. Union/Position: Exempt/Temporary (up to 18 months) Compensation: Exempt Level E $70,750 - 106,826 per annum Hours of Work: This position works a standard 35 hour work week Business Unit Information Community Services & Protective Services (CS&PS) is The City of Calgary's largest department with over 5,000 employees who enrich Calgarians' quality of life through a wide range of leisure, social and public safety services and programs. Strategic Services is a department-level function created to link business, operational and planning processes between and beyond CS&PS business units, and to lead initiatives that serve the department's collective interests in support of Council Priorities. Responsibilities The Business Strategist will be responsible for anticipating emerging strategic issues and assessing business drivers and implications regarding CS&PS departmental ability to achieve its strategic goals in land and asset management. The Business Strategist will work on strategic analysis, research, project management, complete business cases, and recommendation of alternatives. The Business Strategist will also provide consulting and analytical assistance to Strategic Services. Responsibilities include:

Provide expertise, advice and direction for the implementation of a departmental land strategy for CS&PS. Anticipate and provide strategic support to key departmental issues. Gather information on emerging issues, trends and innovation, stakeholder and other business related information. Analyze specific issues related to department services (e.g. issue framing, identification of alternatives, stakeholder consultation, risk analysis, and formulation of options and recommendations). Provide independent and unbiased business analysis and recommendations as to the efficiency, effectiveness, competitiveness and scope of business activities with a focus on urban planning, land and asset management. Prepare reports and presentations for senior administration, committees of Council and Council including research summaries, briefing notes, Council Reports, risk analysis reports.

Qualifications The successful applicant will possess a degree in Planning, Business, Project Management or a related field with a minimum of four years of experience in strategic planning and/or policy development and/or performance measurement. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required. SMART project management training is considered an asset. Competencies required for this position include: project management, strong leadership and team skills; well developed negotiation skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to work and communicate within a group setting; well developed interpersonal skills and business acumen and a high degree of accuracy when working with documents.
