I founded the Cranial Release Technique, Inc. with a commitment to have it represent excellence in cranial-based healthcare education. After 20 years of chiropractic practice and five years of training healthcare professionals in cranial care, CRT, Inc. grew out of my conviction that cranial-based healthcare should be foremost in the minds of practitioners and patients alike. I was convinced that there was a better way to educate practitioners in the art, science and philosophy of cranial care. With that goal in mind Cranial Release Technique, Inc. has been designed to represent the absolute best in training healthcare professionals in cranial care. From the depth of our program, to the quality of the Instructors and our low faculty: student ratios, to the venues in which the classes are held, every aspect of our program is the finest available. I guarantee it This report will give you a brief introduction into cranial-based healthcare and the Cranial Release Technique. Thank you once again for your interest in our program. We look forward to welcoming you to our training sessions. Yours for better health, Dr. William Doreste Cranial Release Technique, Inc. 24 38 83 St Suite # 2 East Elmhurst, NY 11370

History
Cranial-based healthcare had its origins in the early 1900s. Dr. William Garner Sutherland pioneered the concept of cranial bone movement while a student at Andrew Taylor Stills College of Osteopathy.

Dr. Sutherland likened the movement of the cranial bones to a respiratory one and created the terminology Primary Respiratory Mechanism to describe it: Primary: It is the system that comes first. It underlies all of lifes processes and gives dynamism, form and substance to all of anatomy and physiology. It is the spark that gives rise to the breath as it moves through the tissues. It is the foundation of metabolism. It has both an inhalation and an exhalation phase. It is a system composed of many parts that work together to create a whole greater than the sum of the parts.

As you can plainly see, Dr. Sutherland greatly appreciated the power of his new discovery. Sutherland began to research this movement and soon discovered the presence of cranial bone lesions. Sutherland felt that these lesions, fixations, cranial distortions, could interfere with the expression of the Primary Respiratory Mechanism (PRM) and in so doing would cause illness and disease. Sutherland created Osteopathy in the Cranial Field and began working with patients to correct these cranial lesions and restore proper function of the PRM. He soon met with results beyond those accomplished with traditional osteopathic and chiropractic methods aimed at correcting only the spine. Sutherland released his findings in his book, The Cranial Bowl in 1940. Cranialbased health care was born.

Far Reaching Effects

Sutherland felt that not only the cranium, but the spinal column and the long bones of the body as well were involved in the rhythmic movement of the Primary Respiratory Mechanism. How could this be so? We now know that the Dura Mater protecting the brain and spinal cord is the key link. Firmly attached to the internal surfaces of the cranial bones as well as the circumference of the Foramen Magnum, the Dura Mater exits the cranial vault and attaches indirectly to the posterior arch of the Atlas. It is anchored firmly to the posterior bodies of the 2nd and 3rd cervical vertebrae and then attaches once again at the level of the 2nd sacral segment before blending with the periosteum on the posterior of the coccyx. It is this dural link which makes the connection between distortion of the cranium and aberrant spinal alignment and balance. Tensions within the cranial Dura Mater can be transmitted to spinal segments and the sacrum creating misalignment and imbalance. Furthermore, the Dura Mater encasing the spinal nerve roots within the intervertebral foramina becomes contiguous with the epineuria of the spinal nerves as they travel out

to the periphery of the body. Researchers have discovered cerebrospinal fluid as far distally as the tips of the fingers. The entire fascial system of the body has a relationship with the cranial Dura as well. As do the cranial nerves and potentially the hormonal system of the body through the relationship of the cranial Dura to the hypothalamic-pituitary tract.

CRT- A New Evolution in Cranial care

Since its in inception in the early 1900s cranial-based care has remained very much a specialty. Cranial work was performed by only a handful of practitioners. Nearly 200 individual misalignments of the cranial bones could be diagnosed and corrected. Finding the cranial lesions many times involved very subjective, subtle palpation of the cranium. Often times, the corrective sessions lasted 45 minutes or longer. A new school of thought arose asking the question, What if a procedure could be performed which would completely release the entire dysfunctional cranial vault as well as the dural tensions associated with it? And what if the release created by this procedure was thorough enough to cause the spinal, pelvic and fascial structures associated with the Dura to release and normalize as well? It was out of this school of thought that Cranial Release Technique was born. In CRT we deal with one entity Cranio-Dural Stress Syndrome with all of its many ramifications. We utilize a single, 2 minute, corrective procedure to create a deep release within the cranial Dura and within all of the body structures and functions associated with it. The effects are far reaching, and many times, quite profound.

What are the Benefits?

As you can see from the above, the potential benefits of adding cranial-based healthcare to your practice are many. Chiropractors report their patients stabilizing in one half to one third the time as with spinal adjusting alone. Even more, those chronic misalignments which simply never would stabilize now begin to settle down and balance. Massage Therapists report more relaxation and balance in the muscles of their clients when they utilize CRT prior to performing any soft tissue techniques. Those practitioners utilizing myofascial release often find their work made much more efficient when combined with CRT. Acupuncturists report far more balance in the meridian system of the body after performing CRT on their patients. This makes their work more efficient and brings patients to a level of balance in less time. All practitioners report that their patients are far better equipped to deal with the stresses of modern day life due to the positive effect that CRT has on autonomic

nervous system balance. Patients report feeling much more at ease and relaxed as they go through the day. Utilizing CRT opens your practice to a wide ranging array of conditions treatable. Most practitioners report a welcome change to a much more whole- health orientation in their practices after adding CRT. Conditions are more wide-ranging and varied. They become the go to practitioner in their area with the new, specialized approach to care. This means more referrals, less practice stress, and MORE FUN!

The Cranial Release Technique, Inc. Professional Training Program

The CRT training program begins with attending our Cranial Release Technique Mastery Class. The CRT Mastery Class is held over 4 days and includes 24 hours of both lecture and hands-on instruction. Class size is strictly limited to 12 students with 3 instructors present at all times. All instructors are CRT certified. Our faculty to student ratio is kept very low in order to insure only the highest possible quality of instruction. Lecture involves the use of PowerPoint presentation as well as 3 dimensional teaching aids. The hands-on portion of the course is maximized, and consists of psychomotor skill drills covering each aspect of the CRT process and final performance of the complete CRT correction. Technical evaluation and correction by the instructors begins on day 1 and continues throughout the instructional program.

Follow up
Graduates of the CRT Mastery Class may attend our CRT Mastery Review sessions. These sessions were developed with the CRT graduate practitioner in mind.
