Making the Ultimate Choice Abortion has been a controversial issue for over three decades. There will be different viewpoints concerning the social policy as well as ethical acceptability of abortion. In the beginning abortion was considered morally wrong and viewed as a crime that could lead up to prison time. The well-know court case, Roe v. Wade, many uncomfortable questions were discussed and confirmed. There is no other issue that has generates that has such lasting opinions, and the debate has grown even more voluble. With the evolving moral standards of society, abortions are becoming more justified. Abortions, the practice of removing a fertilized egg from a mother has become a controversial issue in American society, but should be generally supported because it is important that a woman has the right to make choices regarding her body, complications during pregnancy either mother or fetus, and unintended pregnancy. In the end, abortion is a choice a woman has regarding the situation. Woman worldwide have the right to decide whether or not to bring a pregnancy to term. Physical integrity ensures freedom from unwanted invasions of ones body. When a pregnancy is unwanted, it can take a toll on a womans physical and emotional well-being. Any woman has the right to physical integrity entitles to make the decisions whether or not go full term. In the process of the decision making she has the right to live with consequences, and no one else including the government should decide whether she will continue to use her body to bring new

McRae 2 life into the world. The decision is too intimate and too important to be taken away from her. In an article Rethinking Roe v. Wade, Samuel Alito and John Roberts who were onto the Supreme Court stated I have become increasingly worried about the future of a womans right to receive a safe and legal abortion; a right that Roe v Wade granted thirty-seven years ago. (Rethinking n.p) Samuel Alito and John Roberts refer to the end of legal abortions and the ramifications. Complications during the pregnancy result into many health reasons why a woman would consider a need for abortion. Often times severe health problems outweigh benefits of carrying a fetus to full term. Women who suffer from depression disorders may find it difficult to carry a child without current medications, which may be harmful to the baby. Women who have Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) fear they may pass this life treating disease to their child. It is one thing to have a disease but to feel impose this disease on your child is something hard to live with. In access with safe abortion In 2008, 41 percent of all pregnancies worldwide were reported as unintended or unplanned(AIDS n.p) With a high level of unwanted pregnancy across the globe many women wish not to carry on the fetus due to past life. It is hard to carry the fetus full term knowing the child is unplanned or not wanted. In most cases it is better for the women to forget about the past and to move on into the future knowing they did not put the fetus in a harmful world. While unintended pregnancy it is an issue regardless of the legal status of abortion, it is fundamental underlying cause of unwanted pregnancy. There are many reasons to terminate a pregnancy such as rape, one night stand, and bad decision making. In some cases women would have an abortion to put the rape behind them and recuperate quickly, and avoid the additional trauma of giving birth to a child of a man she was raped by. Often times children who get pregnant due to an incestuous relationship chose to have an abortion to go on about their lives

McRae 3 without shame. In perspectives on sexual and reproductive health The stated goals of these laws is to ensure that women have carefully considered their decision to terminate their pregnancy and understand the risk involved. ( Foster n.p) When women know the outcome once it comes to mind of Abortion they also know the decision and the aftermath of the case. In conclusion, abortion is a very difficult decision to make and thanks to Roe v. Wade the decision is easier. A woman does not have to resort in going to a back alley when making that personal choice. The debate still continues with unanswered questions for pro-choice, and prolife. I believe many women who make decisions to terminate the pregnancy before her term has the right to do so without a third party. Roe v. Wade gave women the rights to do so during the Supreme Courts in 1973. Women who have been raped cannot deal with the emotional pain of the unwanted pregnancy just as a child that has been incestuous knows the torture that has been done. In regards to Abortion a women who is carrying a fetus has the voice and right to make her own judgment at the end of the day. Will everyone lean on the right and go pro-abortion or will others stay silent? The debate is not over and it will continue as the years come. A quote by Roe v Wade said I think its safe to say that the entire abortion industry is based on a lie. I am dedicated to spending the rest of my life undoing the law that bears my name Roe v. Wade ( Report n.p)
