JOSE RIZAL Born on June 19, 1861 in Calamba, Laguna.

. He had his first lessons from his mother Theodora Alonso. He entered Ateneo Municipal de Manila in 1872 and obtained bachelors degree with highest honor in 1876. He studied medicine at University of Santo Tomas but finished the course in Madrid University in 1885. He took graduate studies in Paris, France and Heidelberg, Germany. He maintained that the backwardness of his country during the Spanish era was not due to the Filipino's indifferences , apathy or indolence as claimed by the ruler, but to the neglect of the Spanish authorities in the islands. Rizals concept of the importance of education is clearly enunciated in his work entitled: Instruction wherein he sought improvements in the school and in the methods of teaching For him, the mission of education is to elevate the country to the highest seat of glory and to develop the peoples mentality. Since Education is the foundation of society and a prerequisite for social progress, Rizal claimed that only through education could the country be saved from domination Rizals Philosophy of education centers on the provision of proper motivation in order to bolster the great social forces that make education a success, to create in the youth an innate desire to cultivate his intelligence and give him life eternal. According to him, the school is the book in which is written the future of the nations. Show us the schools of the people and we will tell you what those people are. APOLINARIO MABINI He was born in Talaga, Tanuan City, Batangas Also known as Sublime Paralytic A Filipino Theoretician who wrote the Constitution for the first Philippine republic 1st Prime minister in 1899 Thou shalt cultivate the special gifts which had been granted thee, working and studying according to thy ability, never leaving the path of righteousness and justice in order to attain thine own perfection. MANUEL LUIS QUEZON The 1st president of the Philippine commonwealth from 1935 until his death According to Quezon, there are two objectives of Philippine education: (1) education for better citizenship, and (2) educations as means of livelihood. He emphasized that the primary objective of the government in educating the Filipinos is not only for the purpose of having means of livelihood but also for the purpose of enabling them to serve the nation better. Quezon stressed that the good of the state is paramount to the good of the individual. The state, therefore, has the duty to mold the spirit of the youth in patriotism and self sacrifice which can be done through education. Show me people composed of vigorous, sturdy individuals, of men and women healthy in mind and body, courteous, industrious, self reliant, purposeful in thought as well in action, imbued with sound patriotism and profound sense of righteousness, with high social ideals and strong moral fiber and I will show you a great nation, a nation that will not submerged, a nation that will emerge victorious from the trials and bitter strife of a distracted world, a nation that will live forever, sharing the common task of advancing the welfare and promoting the happiness of mankind.

Trinidad Hermenegildo Padro de Tavera A physician, member of the Philippine Commission, and founder of the Federal Party. He was also a consummate scholar, as well as a bibliophile and bibliographer. Considered a man of vast learning and probably the most versatile of the Filipino writers of his time (except for Rizal). He wrote on many subjects, from medicine to paleography, linguistics, numismatics, cartography, history, metrical romances, education, and social problems. Our Education should instill love for work, spirit of tolerance, respect for law, love for peace, and practice of thrift. Jorge Bocobo Born on October 19, 1886 in Gerona, Tarlac to Don Tranquilino Bocobo and Doa Rita Teodora Tabago. He was a renowned Philippine scholar, lawyer, journalist, leader, and educator. He was the fifth president of the University of the Philippines from 1934-1939. Known to be moralist and disciplinarian, he was influential in the development of education in the Philippines. To my humble way of thinking education (college) has for its supreme and overshadowing aim the formulation of the sound and noble outlook of life

Camilo Osias Born in Balaoan, La Union on March 28, 1889. He was elected senator for the second senatorial district in 1925. His public service, particularly in the field of education, has earned for him recognition from Otterbein College in Ohio, United States, which awarded him an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws in 1934, and from the National University which gave him an honorary degree of Doctor of Pedagogy in 1961.Osias rose from being a classroom teacher to being the first Filipino division superintendent of schools. He also became the first president of the National University. School has an important role in the development of dynamic nationalism and internationalism in relation to democracy in the education of the youth High educational institutions should do more to turn out graduates who can think logically, scientifically and creatively. Our education should instill love for work, spirit of tolerance, respect for law, love for peace and practice of thrift. Rafael Palma A Filipino politician, Rizalian, reporter, writer, educator and a famous mason in Philippines. He also became the fourth President of the University of the Philippines. A scholar par excellence, Palma was advanced in his ideas. He believed that despite our imperfections, we should attain a degree of perfection. i.e., find the selves we were meant to be, and this quest or search should start with an open and tough mind. The primary purpose of education, according to Palma, is to develop the individual to his highest efficiency so that he can be of use to himself and to the community. Such a concept is based on the philosophy of altruism and is closely allied to citizenship. Education must produce individuals who are both useful to themselves and to society.

Francisco Benitez An outstanding educator, author, editor, and the first dean of the School of Education of the University of the Philippines. The qualities that should distinguish the educated Filipinos of today are (1) Power to do (2) Knowledge of the past events, and (3) Possession of the elements of conduct that are the accomplishments of culture and morality The function of our school is neither to fit the individual for the past which is dead and gone, nor to prepare him for a remote future which is problematic, rather it is to train the individual so that he will be a member of the world as it is. Dr. Lourdes Quisumbing An educator par excellence who has been the first women Secretary of Education, Culture and Sports Believes that education must strengthen the dignity of the learner as a human person. As such, the various dimensions of mans personhood has to be fully developed by the school system through an effective and systemized values education. Venancio Trinidad Former Director of the Bureau of Public Schools Education should aim to develop men and women who are as deeply concerned in the development and uplift of our communities, particularly in the rural areas, as in the promotion of their own personal or individual being.
