A Typhoon Ridden Archipelago

The Philippine Island sits in the typhoon belt of South-East Asia An annual average of 20 typhoons enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility, of which an average of 9 typhoons make landfall. Typhoon season normally occur starting in the months of June and ends in November.

Summary
Although there are a number of challenges in the development of wind farm in the Philippines primarily due to its location, weather pattern and topography, the technological advancements and progress presented here shows that such factors can be mitigated. From the longer, flexible and stronger blades, to the permanent magnet direct drive generators, as well as bigger vessels and O&M strategies, such technologies and services are present to support the need of local developers.
