INTRODUCTION In Malaysia there have a long duration rainfall and high frequency especially in urban cities. Malaysian urban cities commonly in west coast area. This phenomenon is formed mostly through convective rainfall process, followed by monsoon season. From long duration rainfall we can observed pattern of fine resolution historical. Rainfall is obviously an important subject behind the stormwater studies and design. An understanding of rainfall processes and the significance of the rainfall design data for urban drainage system. Rainfall pattern in Malaysia have much higher frequency and intensity than other countries. Malaysia have its own rainfall patterns because some rainfall application design methods in other countries are not applicable. The design and studies stormwater have been adjusted to suit with Malaysian conditions.

PRELIMINARY BACKGROUND STUDY The patterns of fine resolution historical rainfall series such as high-resolution historical rainfall time series as input to hydrological model packages for detailed simulation of urban drainage systems. However, sufficiently long rain series are rarely available from the exact catchment in question and simulations are hence often based on available rain series from other locations. Extreme rainfall properties of importance to the performance of urban storm drainage systems vary significantly even in regions with only minor physiographic differences. Part of this variation can be explained by regional variations of the mean annual rainfall and the remaining statistical residue can be interpreted as statistical uncertainty. West coast consists of urban area are related to rainfall patterns in Malaysia. This phenomenon mostly through convective rainfall. Convectional rainfall occurs when the energy of the sun (or insolation) heats the earths surface and causes water to evaporate changing to water vapour. The tempororal distribution of rainfall within the design storm is an important factor that affects the runoff volume, and the magnitude and timing of the peak discharge. It used to represent the typical storm burst. It is important to emphasise that these temporal patterns are intended for use in design storms. Some of the design long duration rainfalls guidelines require calculation of long duration rainfall total.Daily records should be use d for this purpose. From data, we can discuss about historical storm. Historical storm is used in calibration of models, as well as for the checking of past flood occurrences. In urban drainage situation, it is relatively rare to have good historical rainfall data available close to the study area or catchment. Every effort should be made to obtain such data. The largest differences in the functional means are found between the East and Northwest regions and these differences may probably be due to the effect of topography and, geographical location and are mostly influenced by the monsoons. Therefore, the same inputs or approaches might not be useful in modeling the hydrological process for different regions.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE 1) To understand design and patterns rainfall in Malaysia 2) To study relationship between different scale of observed rainfall patterns 3) To analyze duration and rainfall intensity urban area in Malaysia. 4) To derive observed pattern for different resolution 5) To derive relationship among different resolution.
PROJECT DETAILS General Work Procedures

The general work procedure for this project will be mostly doing the literature review patterns of fine resolution historical rainfall series. To do a research for this project, some data mining and data screening need to collect from Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID). Data was collected from NIWA tideda version 4 software. It can run only in DID in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. From the data we can analyze rainfall intensity every 5 minutes, and mostly it can observed rainfall patterns.

Implementation issues and Challenges

This project were faced with challenges and issues because it is more challenging when the rainfall pattern is at a fine scale and is subjected to uncertainty as it is often found in urban area rainfall runoff modelling. Without the accurate data, we cannot observe the pattern for different resolution. Uncertain weather in urban area give an impacts for patterns, it not constant and it will change in every year. So, we need analyze and observed every year.

CONCLUSION The conclusion, this project carried out to try Empirical relationship between different scale of observed rainfall patterns. It is proposed here that a sample of observed historical data series be analysed to determine any relationship exist among different resolution of observed rainfall.
