Tree Meghan Collison Talks About Walking at the Chanel Resort Show and Being A Professional Roller With WWD
DURING A PHONE INTERVIEW WWD asked tree Meghan Collison what has been her favorite, so far, out of the resort shows being a familiar face at the shows Collison stated Chanel was her favorite. Collison then goes on to say that the location of the Chanel resort show, Versailles, France, was absolutely incredible; however she had to enjoy her first time seeing Versailles painfully: The only thing was those shoes! They destroyed the back of my feet. I was bleeding afterward. Hard plastic with no socks on? Not fun! Especially because we had rehearsal three times. I walked around for the next week with the backs of my moccasins folded down to let them heal! At least the shoes looked amazing. In addition, Collison discussed growing up in Edmonton with WWD. Collison described Edmonton to be a nice place to grow up and explains how when she first started modeling she was back and forth between Edmonton and New York which was very difficultnonetheless it made her a proficient packer: Im a proits all about the rolls instead of folding. You can get so much stuff into the tiniest suitcase. I went to Japan for three and a half weeks one time with just a carry-on.KEVIN SSAB

MARIE CLAIRES KYLE ANDERSON ON EVOLVING, UNIQUENESS, GENDERBENDING MODELS IN THE SPOTLIGHT, INSPIRATION, AND MODEL CRUSHES
Kevin Ssab As the Accessories Director of Marie Claire I am interested in what ways do you believe the modeling industry is evolvingwhat role do you think models play in the fashion industry? Kyle Anderson I think today models are stars and are often booked for campaigns and editorials not just for the way they look but the amount of fans that they have. Models like Andrej Pejic or River Viiperi are as popular on blogs and twitter as they are in the pages of magazines. Kevin Who is your favorite model? Why? Kyle Andrej Pejic is my favorite model because there hasnt been a model for a really long time that has gotten as much attention as he has received. Hes also the most beautiful person in the world in my opinion or- at least boy. He is flawless. Kevin Do you feel that all of the models are beginning to look the same? Kyle Yes, somewhat. But its always like that. There is a certain hair and makeup trend every season. For girls every one we see walk down the runway in Europe is blond with layers. When they have so much makeup on as they do on the runway I literally can hardly tell because there are so many light blonde girls with long hair and white small faces. For boys definitely brown hair last season was blow-dried back and this season its down a bit in the front like a young boys cut. When they are made up they all look so similar. Kevin Do you think models serve as a key factor in a designers process? Kyle Yes, sometimes. Some designers have certain models as their muse. Others use celebrities, etc. Kevin Who is your model crush? Kyle Hmm...A lot! Nils Butler and Alexander Johansson. Only Scandinavians for me! MENSWEAR FASHION DESIGNER RAUN LAROSE ON EVOLVING, THE PROCESS OF CHOOSING MODELS, CREATIVITY, THE INFLUX OF ANDROGYNY AND GENDER-BENDING MODELS IN THE SPOTLIGHT, AND MALES MODELS Kevin I wanted to know from a menswear fashion designers viewpointin what ways do you believe the modeling industry is evolvingwhat role do you think models play in the fashion industry? Raun Larose The fashion industry has evolved immensely in the past couple of years. From the amount of diversity seen in magazines to the rise of transgender models cast for runway shows. No matter the creative field without the model the vision would never come to fruition. Models provide us with a voice to express exactly what it is were trying to say Kevin How do you go about choosing which models will represent your collectionsand how do you experiment as a menswear fashion designer in terms of the models you choose to represent your collections? Raun This process isnt an easy one. I always try to cast models that possess a feminine quality while still remaining very masculine. Ive learned from past mistakes as far as choosing models that necessarily didnt fit the brand aesthetic. I work with a team of people who give me creative input on what models they think would fit the collections. Ive learned to grow out of the stubborn designer mentality and allow the people I work with to share their ideas as far as model selection goes, But ultimately I always try to make a final decision that I am comfortable with. Kevin Working with a lot of different models how does the creative process differ and evolve? Raun It changes depending on the collection or based on what it is Im trying to say for the season. Casting the right model is crucial to how the collection will be received. Ive learned that it doesnt always boil down to the clothes in which I feel like it should, but people want to be visually appealed. Kevin How do you feel about the influx of androgyny and gender bending models like Andrej Pejic being in the spotlight? Raun I think its a great thing!! Fashion is and should always be about evolution. I appreciate the fact that designers such as Riccardo Tisci and Jean Paul Gaultier have provided these models with opportunities to break barriers and open doors. Kevin With male models do you feel as though they fall second in the fashion industry since theres not a large audience for mens fashion as womens? Raun With the Womens market being larger than the Mens its totally understandable why, but what I have noticed is that mens fashion has been taking a rise for the past few seasons and is garnering more attention from the masses. With London now including a separate showing for mens week its only a matter of time before all the other
