2012 Keynote Speech on Ramadan: The Spirit of Ramadan

Event Purpose: The purpose of the event is to improve racial integration and to enhance respect on
cultural differences in Taiwan. Through the introduction of the global annual major event in Islam
Ramadan to the general public, the religious barrier between Muslims and Non-Muslims could be
eliminated. Meanwhile, the cultural literacy and internationalization of Taiwan citizens could be
promoted.

Event Policy: A keynote speech on Ramadan by a Shaykh (Islamic teacher) is conducted, followed by
Q & A time between the audiences and the lecturer.

About the Lecturer:

Shaykh O. Ayash was born into a traditional Ulama family in Damascus, Syria and had received full Islamic
academic trainings from the well-known Abu al-Nur Islamic College in Damascus. Currently he is a parttime lecturer of Arabic language and Islam at The Chinese University of Hong-Kong and The University of
Hong Kong.
