PART C(practice makes perfect) (a)(i)conjucture:The longer the number of hours a student spent on doing in Additional Mathematics ,the higher the students score in examination.

The data below is obtained from interviews of ten students regarding the number of hours each student spent on doing Additional Mathematics exercise per week on the average and the TOV marks. No. x, the number of hours each student spent in doing Additional Mathematics exercise per weekon the average 5 6 8 9 10 12 13 14 15 16 y,TOV marks of the students.

(a)(ii)All the ten points obtained from the above table are plotted as a graph on a Cartesian plane .The graph obtained is a straight line which passes through the origin .From the graph ,there exists an almost perfect positive linear correlation between x and y. 5 6 8 9 10 12 13 14 15 16 x=108 y 27 30 40 44 50 59 67 70 75 80 y=542 x 25 36 64 81 100 144 169 196 225 256 x=1296 y 729 900 1600 1936 2500 3481 4489 4900 5625 6400 y=32560 xy 135 180 320 396 500 708 871 980 1125 1280 xy=6495

Further Exploration: 1. To determine the values of a and b graphically Given yx=b where a and b are constants.

+a = x y

1.2 9.13 0.08 0.96

2.4 3.23 0.38 0.51

2.8 3.23 0.45 0.41

3.5 2.56 0.54 0.26

3.9 1.83 0.59 0.19

4.3 1.56 0.63 0.13

From the graph ,gradient=

=1.514

a= 1.514
From the graph, =1.08 b=12.02 Therefore,there is negative linear relationship between = 1.514 1.08 and with the equation intercept=1.08

CONJECTURE AND CONCLUSION: Conjecture:The longer the number of hours a student spent on doing exercises in Additional Mathematics ,the higher the students scotre in examination.

Conclusion: My conjecture has been proven to be true.From the least squares regression line y=4.949x 0.7505,it shows that for every hour spent in doing Additional Mathematics exercises in at week will contribute a score of approximately 5 marks in examination .That is to say,a student needs to spend 20 hours per week on the average on doing Additional Mathematics exercises in order to score 100 marks.

REFLECTION: From this Additional Mathematics project,I have learnt to a) Apply theories in Additional Mathematics in daily life situations. b) Present my work systematically. c) Find the most suitable measure of central tendency for a given set of data.
