Overview The performance task is designed to make students arrive at a wise economic decision in applying for a university or college, and in choosing the best course to take. The concepts of opportunity cost, benefits, trade off, application of the scientific method and the concept of needs and wants should be reflected in the critical analysis research paper that they will pass towards the end of the quarter. This performance task will be developmental, where one stage will be finished every quarter. During the fourth quarter, all stages and outputs will be collated and revised as one final paper. Procedure Stage 1 (First Quarter) Students are grouped into four (4) members each. Each group must research on at least four (4) colleges/universities that most members are considering for their tertiary education. Research on the following data: 1. Description of the colleges/universities 2. Historical background and reputation 3. Course offerings and curriculum standards 4. Location, average tuition, and benefits 5. Scholarship grants, if any 6. Opportunities after graduation 7. Advantages and disadvantages 8. Other pertinent and statistical data After all the data has been gathered, the group will submit their paper in the following format: 1. Introduction a summary of what the first stage of the critical analysis paper is all about 2. Body of the paper one section per college/university presenting the data that was researched A. College 1 B. College 2 C. College 3 D. College 4 E. College 5 F. College 6 i. Description of the college/university ii. Historical background and reputation iii. Stage 2 (Second Quarter) Students will retain their groupings from the first quarter. Each group must research on at least eight (8) courses that most members are considering for their tertiary education. Research on the following data: 1. Description of the course and historical background 2. Demand for the course and availability in most colleges/universities 3. Average tuition, benefits and scholarship grants/training abroad for the specific course chosen 4. Opportunities after graduation in the Philippines and abroad 5. Advantages and disadvantages 6. Other pertinent and statistical data After all the data has been gathered, the group will submit their paper in the following format: 1. Introduction a summary of what the second stage of the critical analysis paper is all about 2. Body of the paper one section per college/university presenting the data that was researched A. Stage 3 (Third Quarter) Students will retain their groupings from the first quarter. Each member must provide and calculate the gross expenditures for their tertiary education, choosing top two colleges/universities and courses. They will present their calculations per semester/quarter (depending on the tuition scheme of the school), which will be totaled at the end of the data gathering. A data sheet will be given as basis and guide for the student to present data gathered. Students must also research on the economic conditions of the Philippines, and analyze whether their top course and college can help in the nation-building process of the country. Calculations and data must be detailed and accurate. After all the data has been gathered, the group will submit their paper in the following format: 1. Introduction a summary of what the third stage of the critical analysis paper is all about 2. Body of the paper one section per college/university presenting the quantitative data that was researched 3. Research on the economic conditions of the Philippines 4. Analysis and reflections

Stage 4 (Fourth Quarter) Students will retain their groupings from the first quarter. All information and sections of the paper will be collated, organized coherently and submitted as part of the completion of the developmental performance task. In the final analysis of the paper, the students shall give their final choice of course and college, along with their reflections and their narrative on how they arrived on their decision. Students will be guided by the following questions to help on their final analysis: 1. What were the personal factors that helped them choose a course and college? (ambition, interests, family, influences and others) 2. What were the factors that helped them choose a course and college based on their research? 3. What hindrances, limitations and problems did you personally encounter in deciding on a college and course? 4. Does your course help in the nation-building process? Would it help in uplifting the quality of life of your family in the future? How? 5. Present a ten-year career goal and plans after finishing your college course. 6.
