Author Presents Saga of Titanic Survivors

As popular history goes, few stories are as dramatic and endlessly fascinating as the sinking of the Titanic. April 15, 2012 marked the 100th anniversary of the sinking. A Rare Titanic Family: The Caldwells' Story of Survival was written by the great niece of Albert Caldwell, Samford University journalism professor Julie Williams. On Monday, July 30 at 7:00 pm. at RPL Headquarters in Salisbury, Williams will present the Caldwell familys fascinating story. All are welcome to attend this free program. The lucky rescue of Albert, Sylvia, and their 10month-old son Alden aboard Lifeboat 13 is the subject of A Rare Titanic Family. Their experiences aboard the ship were only one part of a bigger nightmare. The Caldwells had been Presbyterian missionaries in Bangkok, Siam, but fled in what they described as a desperate journey around the world to save Sylvia's health. Julie Williams, "a master storyteller," received a B.A. in English and history from Principia College and a Masters in Journalism and a Ph.D in Mass Communications from the University of Alabama. Please join us Monday, July 30, at 7:00 pm.

Rowan Public Library appreciates your gifts and will purchase materials for the library that can be enjoyed by our community for years to come.
