MINIMUM FACULTY DEGREE REQUIREMENTS BACHELOR OF HEALTH STUDIES - SPECIALIZED HONOURS IMPORTANT NOTE: A Study Plan is an aid for planning courses only and should be used in conjunction with the calendar. It is NOT a substitute for the calendar or the official university transcript. In the case of a discrepancy, the official university transcript and calendar provisions shall prevail. It is the responsibility of the student to be taking the correct courses and ensuring ALL degree and program requirements are met. Degree and program requirements are subject to change. When selecting courses refer to the program requirements listed on your study plan and outlined in the calendar. Update your study plan using your grade reports at the end of each academic session. All courses indicated on the study plan and outlined in the calendar must be completed. Definition of Course Credits: A course designated 3.0 carries 3 credits, 6.0 carries 6 credits, etc. and fees are assessed accordingly. General Education requirements: 18 credits in accordance with the following to be completed at the 1000 or 2000 level: 6 credits Humanities; 6 credits Natural Science; 6 credits Social Science or 6 credits in Modes or Reasoning at the 1000 level. General Education courses DO NOT fulfil Major or Elective requirements. No more than 30 General Education credits will count towards a degree. (Exception: students who have successfully completed a 9 credit 1000 level Foundation course will be considered to have satisfied the 6 credit corresponding area of study in General Education and 3 credits will count toward an elective or equivalent area in their degree program.) Elective requirements: 36 credits Major requirements: At least 66 credits. Upper Level requirements: Of the required 120 credits for the degree students must complete at least 36 credits at the 3000 level or above including at least 18 credits at the 4000 level. Residency Requirement: A minimum of 30 course credits, and at least half (50 percent) of the course credits required in each undergraduate degree program major/minor must be taken at York University. Graduating with BHS Honours: Students must pass at least 120 credits, which meet the Faculty of Health degree and program requirements. The minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) for all courses must be at least 5.0. Restrictions: Students are allowed to retake a failed course once for academic degree or certificate credit. Students are allowed to retake a passed course once for academic degree or certificate credit, only if the student has failed to achieve sufficient standing to proceed in a core or prerequisite course in a degree or certificate program and if no alternative remedies are provided (e.g., alternative qualifying exam). Students should note that course availability and space restrictions may preclude the possibility of repeating a course in the session they choose. When a student is allowed to repeat a course for academic degree or certificate credit, the second grade will be the grade of record and the only grade calculated in the students grade point average (Major, Cumulative, Sessional and Overall). A course can be credited only once towards satisfaction of academic degree or certificate credit requirements. The record of both the first and second time the course was taken will appear on the students transcript, with the first course designated and No Credit Retained. The restrictions regarding repeating a passed or failed course also apply to cross-listed courses and degree credit exclusions.
