41297 - Ethernet PanelView Plus and/or Ethernet PLC do not appear when browsing the Local tab in RSLinx Enterprise.
Date Created: 07/31/07 Date Last Updated: 05/20/10

Ethernet PanelView Plus and/or Ethernet PLC do not appear when browsing the Local tab in RSLinx Enterprise within RSView Studio Machine Edition. The devices respond to the ping command. Assumed: The target devices have been configured for TCP/IP Ethernet and respond to the ping command. RSLinx Enterprise relies on broadcast for Ethernet communications. Often devices on the Ethernet will not appear when browsing the Ethernet driver on the Local tab. This most often is one of three causes: 1. 2. 3. 4. The PC is separated from the target devices by a Ethernet router/gateway A 3rd party firewall/internet security application is installed and running The target device does not support Ethernet IP "browsing". Such as 1756-ENET/A. The PC has multiple Network Interface Cards (NIC) i.e.: Notebook PC with wireless and hardwired NIC.

In the case of number 1), 2) & 3) manually adding the devices to the Ethernet driver on the Local tab will force a connection to the target. Simply right mouse click on the Ethernet driver and select Add Device. Add the PanelView Plus and/or Ethernet PLC/device as needed. Number 2). may require disabling the 3rd party firewall/internet security software. Most Rockwell EthernetIP devices use TCP/UDP port number 44818. Open this port in the firewall if needed. Refer to Answer ID 29402 for additional information on the TCP/UDP ports used by Rockwell products. Number 4) requires disabling the NIC not in use. Unfortunately WinSock (Windows Socket Services) sometimes does not route the TCP/IP packets to the correct NIC. Navigate to the Network Connections on the PC and right click to disable the device not used. For additional information on Multicast, see this document Answer ID 25129
