THE NEGROS ISLAND The Negros Island is a rich and generally untapped market.

Economic profiles of the neighbouring cities are as follows: Bais City - is the largest producer of raw sugar in Negros Oriental. There are two sugar mills in the city. The Central Azucarera de Bais and URSUMCO (Universal Robina Sugar Milling Corporation). Bago City - Top rice producer in the province and is home to industries like the Ma-ao Sugar Central, Viva Mineral Water bottling plant, Ginebra San Miguel distilled products and Alter Trade Muscovado Mill. It is host to the 40 to 80 megawatts capacity PNOC-EDCs Northern Negros Geothermal Power Plant. Victorias City - The city work force is composed mostly of professionals, skilled and unskilled labor including sugarcane workers. Victorias Milling Company, the biggest integrated sugar mill and refinery in the world, is located here. Cadiz City Fishing industry accounts to the major economic contribution of the City. Most industries established are related to fishing. Includes fish processing, fish drying, fishing boat building. The City has 4 ice plants and 5 cold storages. Silay City The Department of Tourism identified Silay as one of the 25 major tourist destinations in the country. Industries in Silay include the manufacture of furniture, clothing and fashion accessories, jewelry, personal care, consumer goods and pasalubong items. Sagay City - Sugar is the major industry of the City followed by other agricultural products that include corn, fish, and livestock. Dumaguete City - Tourism, the academe, BPO and technology-related activities, and the retail industries are the major sources of income for the city. The academe alone pumps more than Php2 billion of economic activity to the city annually. BPOs and IT firms, as well as retailing, are the fastest rising industries. Bayawan City - is more of the rural setting than urbanized with only 2.25% of its total land area as urban area. The city is basically agricultural and its economy sits on agricultural platform. Revenues from land farming, livestock production, aqua-culture activities and marine fishing are a major income contribution of the City. Tanjay City - is known for its Tourism Programs. Sipalay City Major industry in the city is tourism. You can go diving, spelunking, trekking, kayaking, resort hopping, boating, snorkelling, mountain biking and swimming. La Carlota City - is a 4th class city in the province of Negros Occidental and the only landlocked city in the province. Economic activity mainly involves agriculture.

Kabankalan City - is a 1st class city in the province of Negros Occidental. It is considered the second most progressive city next to Bacolod City. The city serves as the center of economic activities in southern Negros, and the take-off point for various destinations down south, and links the province to Dumaguete City. Himamaylan City - The city's main sources of livelihood include fishery, sugar production, rice production, mango cultivation, and ethanol exports. San Carlos City - the Philippine Ports Authority has chosen the San Carlos City port from among other ports in the province for its expansion program in 1998 which include the reclamation of four hectares of sea to accommodate various port buildings, facilities and container vans, an extension on the east side for two RO-RO vessels. Escalante City - Escalante has the highest population density among the provinces cities second only to the provincial capital - Bacolod City. Construction and transportation industries in the city are booming. Ilo-ilo City is a highly urbanized city. It is an ideal hub for trade, commerce and industry. Its universities and colleges provide the skilled and talented labor which together with its port facilities, telecommunications infrastructure and utilities has a major impact in attracting businesses and industries focused mainly in banking and finance, retail trading, and business process outsourcing or BPO.
