STUDENT ORIENTATION PROGRAMME 2009

The college journey of a student begins with the first step on campus. Becoming comfortable in the new environment is an important part of adjusting to college life and that is what orientation is all about. The orientation program is designed to assist the student with the transition to the academic and student life at ITM. The orientation Programme will help the student to : prepare themselves for academic life at ITM learn about various activities organized in the Institute become aware of the rules and regulations of the Institute become familiar with the traditions at ITM explore the campus and its resources make new friends Orientation is not merely an event .It is a process. ITM CAMPUS
The campus of the Institute is set in picturesque, lush green surroundings over 10 acres of fully developed institutional land at Huda, Sector 23-A, Gurgaon. The Institute is conveniently connected to New Delhi and its neighbouring towns and the I.G. International Airport, New Delhi is located at a distance of 16 kms from the Institute.

ITM A picturesque view In keeping with the Institute's mission, the campus has been designed and constructed bearing in mind aesthetics and the environment. It has been planned to provide facilities commensurate with a 21st century Institute of higher learning, in an environment which enhances the learning process. The concept and design of the Institute has been provided by the Group for Rural and Urban planning, led by the nationally acclaimed architect, Mr. Romi Khosla.

Institute of Technology and Management, Gurgaon (ITM), a private autonomous institution was founded in 1996, to promote excellence in Technical and Management education by Educate India Society, registered under the Registration of Societies Act of 1860.

The Governing Council is the policy making body of the Institute (Autonomous Scheme). MDU - Maharshi Dayanand University

Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) is one of the four universities that form the corner stones of higher education in Haryana. It is situated at a distance of 70km Northwest of Delhi on the National Highway No. 10. It is spread over a sprawling 740 acre of land on the outskirts of the historic city of Rohtak. Named after the great social reformer and founder of Arya Samaj, MDU was established in 1976 as a residential University with the objective of promoting higher studies in the fields of environmental, ecological and life-sciences and inter-disciplinary education and research. But in 1978, the unitary and residential character of the University was changed when all colleges in then five districts of Haryana were affiliated to this University, thus, turning it into a teaching cum affiliating University. The University has, since its inception, grown to 27 Post-graduate Departments under 12 Faculties with more than 350 faculty members; one Post-Graduate Regional Centre at Rewari; one University College; one Directorate of Distance Education and one Computer Centre. The University has been, over the years, constantly improving the quality of education in the traditional areas of Arts, Commerce and pure Sciences. At the same time, it has kept pace with rapid changes taking place in the sphere of technical and professional education and has introduced a number of job-oriented courses. ITM is an Autonomous Institution of MDU where admissions are conducted as per the norms of Governing Council, ITM and approved by Haryana Government and MDU. ITM is Autonomous in designing its own curriculum and conducting examinations. MDU shall award the Degrees to the students of ITM as recommended by ITM. The name of ITM will be mentioned on the Degree. Hence, the Degree will be issued by MDU with the logo of ITM.

AUTONOMY
The concept of autonomy is a structural solution intended mainly to provide an enabling environment to improve and strengthen the teaching and learning process. UGC Guidelines (2003) on the scheme of autonomous colleges spelt out the objectives of autonomy as: to determine its own courses of study and syllabi; to prescribe rules of admission, subject to the reservation policy of the state government; to evolve methods of evaluation and to conduct examination; to achieve higher standards and greater creativity; to promote national integration; and to ensure accountability of the institution and its members.

FACILITIES
ACCOMMODATION
The Institute provides high quality accommodation on sharing basis with clean and hygienic dining facilities. ITM hostels expose students to a variety of people, values and experiences. There is probably no other time in ones life when you will live, work and study with so many other people. Good accommodation can also be obtained at reasonable prices in the vicinity of the Institute.

LIBRARY & RESOURCE CENTRE

The Institute has a well stocked newly upgraded Library which is truly an Educational Resource Centre. It has around 3500 titles, with about 40,000 books. We subscribe to 140 Journals in various disciplines. The Library has a DELNET series facility (Developing Library Networks) where we can share and access resources of more than a 1000 Libraries in India. The student can visit the ITM Library website for details including new arrivals. There is an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) system for accessing availability of Library resources including your account status round the clock. The student can also make online reservations for books. Students may mail their suggestions and recommendations to library@itmindia.edu The form for library membership is available with the library staff and the students shall be issued a library card when they submit the duly filled form to the library. Every student is issued a library card if and when he applies for it to the library in-charge. Every student shall have the facility of borrowing 4 books at a time for 14 days. The Institute also has a book bank facility whereby students can borrow 6 - 9 books for the complete semester and they may contact the librarian for this facility.

TRAINING & PLACEMENT DEPARTMENT

As a part of the efforts to develop and strengthen the relationship with the corporate world, ITM has delineated long-term strategy to place Under Graduate students in prestigious organizations. Ms. Bhumika Sharma, Head of the placement cell also keeps the students informed about potential job opportunities and provides them career guidance from time to time. Students are exposed to the actual work environment of various Industries through Industry-Institute Programmes and opportunity for hands-on training to the students (both in conventional as well as advanced techniques). A well organized placement cell is functioning in the Institution with a fulltime dedicated Placement Officer, who continuously monitors the employment potentials and arranges the campus interviews for the students. The Placement Officer maintains a consistent communication with the leading companies 'Nation wide' for placement of the students. The office keeps close liaison with various industrial establishments (both private and public sectors), which conduct campus interviews and select graduate and post-graduate students from all disciplines. The college organises in-campus and out-campus interviews for its students to get proper placement. The training and placement cell works in liaison with the Industry to assist students in summer training and in providing placement after their graduation. Every year it provides placement to more than 70% students in prestigious organizations and corporate. The cell also keeps in touch with the Industry by inviting personnel from the Industry for organizing aptitude tests, group discussions and sessions on guidance programmes on How to face interviews.

We entertain the companies requests for the details of passed out students for employment by maintaining a Strong Database of our Students those who have completed their degree. Job offers, dates of interviews, selection of candidates etc. are announced through their individual e-mails and the Placement Office Notice Board. The Placement Office serves to merely bridge the gap between a job -aspirant and a prospective employer. facilities for Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Lawn Tennis and Athletics are available. Our Cricket ground is well known in Gurgaon and we have Inter College Cricket Tournaments. Besides this we also have inter-college football, volleyball and basketball tournaments An interesting Sports Calendar awaits you starting from 10th August 2009 onwards. Athletics dates are 9 to 11 September 2009. Students interested in sports must enrol themselves in their respective Departmental Teams and also give their area of special interest to the Sports In charge Mr. Pawan Raghav at the earliest. Controlling/monitoring all records related to students of the Institute; viz; Registration, Student attendance, Admission process, details of fee/examination fee, Examination forms, maintenance of confidential record/documents, marks sheet, results and all other issues related to students are dealt by COR i.e. Controller of Records. For any students record, information or query, students have to contact the COR. CONTROLLER OF EXAMINATIONS The Controller of Examinations / Deputy Registrar (Examinations) conducts, controls and monitors the examination systems very closely. The examinations are conducted very strictly with Zero Tolerance to use of unfair means during examinations.

ACCOUNTS A full fledged accounts branch looks after the receipt, refunds of fee of all types and all fund management.

DISCIPLINE
Zero Tolerance Policy Ragging
Ragging, its abetment, eve-teasing and / or any kind of mental or physical harassment, either directly or indirectly, of any student(s) by whatsoever name called which may hurt the sensibilities or self esteem of a student(s), inside or outside the Institute and/or its hostel(s) / mess, cafeteria is strictly prohibited by law and as held by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in its order dated 08/05/2009 in the case titled " University of Kerala Vs Council, Principal's College Kerala & others" bearing CA No. 887/2009. Disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act, which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student(s), indulging in rowdy or indisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or junior student(s) or asking the student(s) to do any act or perform something, which such student(s) will not do in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student shall constitute an act of ragging.

Besides police/legal action, a student found indulging in any such activity(s) shall be expelled from the Institute. In case of expulsion from the Institute, under such circumstances, the student's tuition, development and /or any other fee paid by him/her shall be forfeited. PARKING, ID CARDS & OTHER ISSUES
Identity Cards: Students must carry their Institute I Card with them. I. Cards are checked at Main gate regularly. They must show their I card at Main Gate while entering the Institute or when asked for by any Staff member. A student found without the I. Card can be stopped from entering the campus. Parking of vehicles: - Parking of vehicles by students is permissible only at the designated parking area which is near the Institute. Students must not park their vehicles on road, footpath, residential area and streets around and adjacent the Institute. Students parking vehicles at unauthorized places can be fined and are liable for disciplinary action, Valuable Items/ Money: - Students are advised not to bring valuable/costly Items to the Institute. Mobiles, watches, ornaments, debit/ credit cards, money and college bags should not be kept unattended. Use of Colour during Holi & Crackers during Diwali:- Playing Holi in and around the Institute is strictly banned. Similarly bursting crackers in the Institute shall also be considered as an act of indiscipline. Strict disciplinary action will be taken if any student is found violating these rules. Disturbance: -Students are advised not to speak loudly while walking through the corridors so that the classes are not disturbed. Food & Drinks out-side the Canteen: - Taking Eatables/ Drinks in the class rooms, parking lot and playing grounds etc. is prohibited. Throwing used tea cups/ cans is banned.

Misbehaviour:- Misbehaviour of any kind with fellow students/ staff members & security guards shall be treated as an act of gross indiscipline. Association, active or passive, with any unlawful organization including holding and /or participating in demonstrations, inciting violence, displaying notices or circulating handbills in the Institute and/or its hostel (s)/mess is strictly prohibited. Smoking, consumption of alcohol, drugs or any other intoxicant by whatsoever name called within the Institutes premises and /or its hostel (s)/mess is strictly prohibited by law. Use of cellular/satellite telephones and/or pagers within the premises of the Institute is strictly prohibited.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
SPIC MACAY CONCERTS .

The Institute is also a part of the internationally famous organization SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Music and Culture Amongst Youth) The ITM Chapter of SPICMACAY organizes musical concerts twice a year wherein students witness performances by renowned exponents of Indian Music (Vocal and Instrumental) and Dance. The students thereby get an opportunity to develop an awareness of Indian culture and heritage. Some of the artists, honoring us by their visit are:- Pandit Neeladri Kumar, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Pandit Salil Bhatt, Shri T.N. Krishnan, Shrimati Savita Devi, Pandit Panchakshri, Swami Mattigatti, Pandit Ronu Mazumdar, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia etc.

MOMENTUM
The annual cultural technical and sports festival Momentum is held every year in the month of October. In the last few years the festival has earned the reputation of being a very lively and entertaining inter-college festival where we have a combination of highly professional performances by leading singers, cultural events, literary and technical competitions and a host of indoor and outdoor sports activities. It includes various events like Debates, Quiz programmes, extempore, Essay writing competitions, Dance competitions, Singing competitions, Fashion Show, Dramatics, Online programming, Face painting, Sudoku, Web designing, Mr. and Ms. Momentum, Mr. I.T.M., Collage making, Antakshiri and a host of other events. The winners are given certificates and mementoes for their achievements. The grand finale of the festival is a musical concert by the famous artists from the music world. Some of the artists who have performed during the festival in the past are Shibani kashyap, Mika, Mohit Chauhan, Tantrikz, Bally Sagoo, Palash Sen, Ashok Masti and many more. The festival witnesses overwhelming participation from both within the college and from other colleges like Amity, Delhi College of Engineering, Bhartiya Vidya Peeth, C.I.T.M, Surajmal Institute of Technology to name a few. . It clearly exemplifies the zeal of our students towards the non-traditional side of education as well. Our students are trained equally towards classroom coaching and onstage cultural presentations. The participation is such activities helps the students develop their ability to organize such activities and lead an integrated life. They develop skills for effective oral and written communication.

CEREBRATION
The Institute also organizes a technical festival called Cerebration in which students get an opportunity to participate in various technical events like Motor Boat Racing, Technical Paper Presentations, IT Symposiums Project Displays, LAN Gaming, De-bugging, On the Spot Programming etc. By participating in such technical events, the students get an opportunity to put into practice the technical knowledge they have acquired by spending four years in their engineering courses.

CROSSROADS
CROSSROADS is a society which is an amalgamation of Art, Culture, Literature and Spirituality, which are vital, as a source of continued multiple viewpoints and broadening minds horizons beyond mere technical know how. The society organizes the Crossroad ITM Fiesta a multiple bonanza clubbing up a myriad of events ranging from as creative as t-shirt and pot painting to substantial awareness in open panel debates. It also invited under privileged children for their recreation. There was also a food fest in between.

YUKTI (NGO) (Room No:106)

Hands that heal are more pious than the hands that pray We the YUKTI-a non-governmental organization brought to you by ITM, Gurgaon.We are about people coming from different walks of life, who believe in making life better for the negligent and the suffered ones regardless of caste, colour, religion or status. Service in any form is beautiful. To give encouragement and sympathy, to show interest, to banish fear, to build self-confidence and to awaken hopes in the hearts of underprivileged is the greatest service of them all. We cannot do great things but only small things differently and with a smile. ITM family believes in this philosophy and performs our duties with dedication, diligence and discipline. The organization has five cells: PRERNA: The education cell aims at providing education to all which includes basic computer education and vocational training. SUVIDHA: The health cell aims at organising health camps for poor and the needy at different places. JAGRITI: The awareness cell aims at spreading awareness among people through street plays, marathons, and walk-a-thons. KHUSHI: This cell aims at spreading happiness among suffered ones by organizing trips to amusement parks, museums and invitation to college fest. Besides the academic, literary and co-curricular activities organized at the institutional level, every department besides encouraging the formation of subject societies also publishes a biannual journals and Newsletters in which articles are contributed by the students, faculty, academia from the field and the research oriented technocrats in the industry. VECTOR TECH

Vector Tech is a newsletter published biannually. It describes all activities pertaining to the infrastructural development of the Institute, the intellectual attainments of the faculty and the academic and cultural achievements of the students. Vector Tech also provides information regarding conferences, seminars and workshops organized by the different departments, varied academic activities conducted by the subject societies and co curricular activities, cultural fests and sports tournaments held during the academic session. It is also a forum for students to nurture their talent and share their views on application of technical knowledge.

MOMENTUM THE MAGAZINE

The annual student magazine Momentum is a forum to help develop the creative abilities of students and staff. It reflects the attitude, ambitions and dreams of the entire generation of college students through the articles it contains. It contains a host of literary articles, stories, poems, puzzles, jokes, cartoons etc. It also provides a host of thought provoking articles on the latest developments in the field of science along with some humour and mind boggling crosswords. The magazine also gives an overall view of the social-cultural interaction and inter-personal interaction amongst students, faculty and staff.

TECHNICAL SOCIETIES
The Institute also has a number of societies functional at the Institute and Departmental level. The main objective of these societies is to develop abilities among students in the technical as well as non-technical fields. The Societies arrange many events and activities such as Educational tours, technical presentations, seminars, lecture series, Group discussion, Technical and Non-technical Quizzes, Debates, Essay writing, Brain teasers, Technical film shows etc. throughout the year.

CORPOVA
The society CORPOVA is managed by the Economics & Management Section of the Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities. It was realized as a support system for the students need of acquiring management and economics knowledge besides the main technical course. The knowledge of managerial skills is required in every field of life. It is no more recognized as being a mere add-on or only a soft skill; rather it has become a necessity. The role of CORPOVA comes in the form of providing the students with that platform for gaining that knowledge and experience. It organizes various interdepartmental Quiz programmes, Group Discussions, Game shows, and guest lectures.

SPACE -THE CIVIL ENGINERING SOCIETY

The civil engineering Society, SPACE( Society in Pursuit of Advances in Civil Engineering ) was inaugurated on 27th November 2008.The purpose of this society is to expose our students, civil engineers-to-be, to the challenges of the profession. First News letter has been published This society will organize special lectures by experts from Industry and other institutions, National students symposium once a year, Industrial visits and Educational tours, Practical Training and Socially relevant projects for students, Technical quiz and competitions, Lively interaction between students and faculty members including social events at fostering a healthy relationship.

COMPUTER SOCIETY OF ITM (CSI)

The Computer Society of India is a professional body where computer professionals meet to exchange views and information in the area of computer science and IT and other relevant areas, to learn and share ideas. CSI is the oldest and largest organization of IT professionals in India having 25,000 members and 63 chapters and more than 200 Students Branches across the country exclusively focusing on the interest of the IT Professionals. Institute of Technology & Management, Gurgaon is a collegiate chapter of CSI..CSI organizes a number of interesting events from time to time during an academic session such as programming/ debugging contest; C, C++, MCQ Test; Presentation; GDs & debates; C, C++ classes; movie screening; LAN Gaming and so on.

SOCIETY OF ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS (SEE)

SEE has been formed under the aegis of the ECE and EI department at ITM. This body is actively involved in organizing workshops, seminars and various contests such as Technical Logo Competition, Video Show, Quiz, Essay-writing, Debate and Group Discussion encouraging vigorous student participation.

ISTE COLLEGIATE CHAPTER

Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) is a premier professional society since 1967 having more then 50,000 corporate and student members in India and abroad. ITM has its collegiate chapter comprising around 50 faculty members and more than 200 students. ISTE activities at ITM including holding technical quizzes, essay-writing competitions, seminars etc. regularly.

IEEE FIRMWARE

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the worlds leading professional association for advancement of technology. It consists of over 365,000 members including 68,000 students in over 150 countries. ITM is a part of the IEEE family, one of the 1430 student branches across the globe. The branch ITM IEEE FIRMWARE holds technical conferences, symposia, meetings; publishes technical papers in electrical, electronics & computer engineering; and provides educational programs for members.

SESI STUDENT CHAPTER

The Solar Energy Society of India (SESI), established in 1976, and having its Secretariat at New Delhi, is the Indian Section of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES). Its interest covers all aspects of renewable energy. SESI has presently 2000 members. It has regional chapters located in Guwahati, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh and local chapters in Pondicherry and Coimbatore. A Student Chapter has been opened at ITM in January, 2009 with 35 students.

ISHRAE STUDENT CHAPTER

Indian Society of Heating Refrigeration And Air-conditioning Engineers is the leading professional association for advancement of the science of Heating and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering and related sciences. ITM has a Student Chapter since December, 2008 with over 120 students.

SAE STUDENT CHAPTER

Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is a professional organization for mobility engineering professionals in the aerospace, automotive and commercial vehicle industries. The Society is a standards development organization for the engineering of powered vehicles of all kinds, including cars, trucks, boats, aircrafts and others. Initially the Society of Automobile Engineers started in 1905 and thereafter this Society renamed as Society for Automotive Engineers. ITM has a Student Chapter since 2006 with over 30 students.
