Complexity and Interdependence How to Solve Global Challenges

Workshop at a Glance
Most of todays global challengesclimate change, poverty and development, security, economic imbalances, to just name a fewrequire governments, business and non-governmental organizations to work together in ways that no one thought necessary or possible not long ago. The lines between public and private players are blurring. This has consequences for the way these topics are taught in school and higher education, for example in Group 3 (Individuals and societies) of the IB Diploma Programme. This session will use three concrete examples (climate change, humanitarian aid, proliferation of nuclear weapons) drawn from a big collaborative brainstorming run by the World Economic Forum to show what this means in practice.

About the facilitator Dr. Matthias Catn is a Program Director at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. He is responsible for the Schools undergraduate programs. He has previously worked as an Associate Director at the World Economic Forum in Geneva, where he was responsible for the Global Redesign Initiative and helped launch the Network of Global Agenda Councils. Before joining the Forum he was a Program Officer at International IDEA, an international organization based in Stockholm, and a Research Associate and Lecturer at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Heidelberg.
