The task of leading others is as important as leading yourself. The better you know yourself, the more capable youll become of leading others. If you have lesser knowledge of who you are and what you can do, the possibilities are endless. Many aspects of your life can surely be affected by not knowing yourself and your abilities because leadership is you extending yourself-your beliefs, your ideas, your character and values-, to other people, those that you lead. Lecture: Here are important things you need to know and develop to be able to lead others effectively. Remember, Selfleadership is effective leadership.
When you are self-aware, you will be able to know what things about you and/or the group that you lead need changing or improvements. Knowing yourself is a prerequisite to a good self-image.
Physique: Physical appearance cannot be a strong foundation for self-image because we age. Performance: Performance is undependable in that our performance can deteriorate. Possessions: Possessions is another shaky foundation for self-image because in an economic downturn, we may have to give up some of our possessions. Our possessions are not permanent ... they can be stolen or destroyed
As a leader, you need to develop a healthy self-image. As mentioned earlier, leadership involves sharing and extending yourself to the people you lead. So, how can you lead well and build up others if you yourself need a lot of building up?
Advantages of a good Self-image. A good leader to others Doesnt submit to peer pressure Is not a threat to others and cannot be threatened by others Believes in self and makes life successful Willing to experiment and try things Easier to make friends and have more meaningful relationships Know how to appreciate and look at life positively, not why me Failure is not devastating Can look at bad points and change them

They have the courage to express themselves. Their lives are enriched with each new encounter. They are nicer to be around. They have a hard time forgiving their mistakes and make themselves pay the price forever. They believe they can never be as good as they should be or as others. They are afraid to show their creativity because they will be ridiculed. They are dissatisfied with their lives. They spend most of their time alone. They complain and criticize. They worry about everything and do nothing. People with low self-esteem have an I cant do it attitude. 12 Steps to High Self-Esteem Step 1: Forgive yourself for past mistakes. Step 2: Focus on your positive attributes. Step 3: Follow the example of successful people. Step 4: Become a self talker. Step 5: Exhibit a good attitude. Step 6: Get plenty of rest. Wrap-Up: As a leader, you need to know yourself. Be self-aware of your own ideas, likes, dislikes, emotions, thoughts, strengths and weaknesses. As a leader, a positive or high self-esteem is necessary to lead people or groups well.
