ABE Diploma Programmes Accredited by UCJ!

After a rigorous assessment of their syllabus content and course structure, the ABE Diplomas in Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management have received accreditation from the University Council of Jamaica. This means that holders of these qualifications are now officially recognized as having met the relevant standards of excellence in these areas. They also will receive a total of 60 transferable credits that will allow them to gain entry into undergraduate degree courses locally and internationally. This accreditation by the UCJ complements the earlier recognition of the ABE DBA by the UWI as being acceptable for entry into their Management Studies degree programme. It also is another feather in the cap of the ABE, as their qualifications have been assessed and passed the quality standards of several accrediting bodies worldwide. Holders of the ABE Diploma Level V receive exemptions from selected degree courses at over 60 universities worldwide, including the Heriot-Watt University Management Degree Programme available at B&B. Persons will be exempted from five of the twelve modules in the HWU degree, meaning that they can complete the HWU BA in as little as three years after leaving 5th Form. This expands the opportunities for persons in Fifth Form. Instead of following the traditional route of doing For those who cannot start Diploma Level V, they can finish Level IV in one year, use that to enter into Stage I of the HWU programme and finish the latter in another three years. They can then get an internationally ac-

The exposure to relevant management concepts and the international recognition and marketability of the qualification will enhance their resumes significantly over their peers. In other words they will have a headstart on the road to success!

Why Choose an ABE Diploma Programme?

ABE programmes have many advantages. Here are some of the key ones: University progression in less time The ABE Level IV is a shorter route to an internationally recognised degree. It can be started with just two CXC subjects and can be completed within 8 months, and gives entry into the HWU degree programme. While Level V has higher entry requirements and takes a longer time to complete, it also offers entry and exemptions from degree courses around the world. This then means that you will save in time and money in your quest to start a degree programme. These features means that the ABE is one of the quickest routes to that needed degree... Affordability You can obtain two global qualifications (giving you international mobility) for less than most comparable courses. The exemptions awarded by selected universities also reduces the time and cost of completing a degree. The ABE programme costs up to 30% less than comparable coursesin this case, an Associate Degree. In addition, with the FastTrack arrangement, persons no longer have to wait between 4-7 years and spend up to $1.1m after completing their CXCs to get an accredited Bachelors degree. Instead, by utilizing both the subject-exemptions granted under the fast-track programme and the allinclusive books included fees, it can take you as little as 3 years and less than $600,00 to obtain 2 internationally accredited qualifications after CXCs... Global recognition and worldwide accreditation ABE qualifications are recognised by colleges, universities, employers and ministries around the world. The recognition by the official regulatory body in the UK (Office of Qualifications Ofqual) means that the ABE qualifications have global mobility and are transferable worldwide, which is more than can be said about some

or Singapore and your qualification is instantly recognisable... Convenience and Flexibility Schedule your course around your life - not the other way around. Register only for as many or as little courses that you can handle at any one time as your budget and/or time-demands dictate... QualityMore comprehensive content set at a higher standard The British education system has the highest standards in the world. Courses from the UK are respected for their comprehensiveness and quality. Completing an ABE Diploma will thus allow you an edge over your peers as you will explore topics in more depth and have a better knowledge of the key concepts needed for success in your chosen field... Value-for-money Doing the Level IV offers you the chance to get two for the price of one. It covers the same material as the CXC Maths and English syllabus, and can then be used as a refresher course by persons who want to resit their CXCs to get a higher grade.

to students who are looking for an excellent business qualification. It is not an easy programme and you have to study smart and hard, but the rewards are there when you finish. I would continue to recommend ABE to anybody who desires an enviable career as a world class business manager.

I had been working as a bank

teller, deciding how to move my career forward. I met with an ABE representative who told me about the Business Administration programme. I found that the course content and progression routes to a degree programme fitted with what I wanted to do. The idea of having an international qualification was very attractive to me. The support I got from ABE was tremendous. The past papers, manuals, publications with examiners' comments and the study tips were instrumental. The flexibility of the classes also made my studies more manageable, as I have a small child to look after. After I finished my ABE I got several exemptions onto the BA Business and Finance from Heriot-Watt University. My ABE qualification has definitely helped my personal and career development. I have even lectured ABE courses . At work I have now moved on to the management trainee programme. I would like to succeed on this management role before one day becoming a consultant in entrepreneurship.

I decided to go down the ABE route because I felt that it gave me the chance to sharpen my knowledge and business skills. I particularly enjoy the flexibility of the course and the fact that it's a costeffective way to gain knowledge. Throughout the course I received a good level of support from ABE. My lecturers and peers also helped me a lot through discussion and group work. I recently completed my BA (Hons) in Business Administration through the University of Hertfordshire and am working while waiting for my result. When I get my result I plan to pursue my MBA at Southern Cross University, Australia. I feel that my ABE qualification has helped me because I can apply the skills and knowledge that I learned from the course to my research in the final year of my degree. I would recommend ABE

Student Support: Course Materials

Specially designed interactive and text based course materials have been developed. The textbook course materials provide information on:
Expected learning out-

comes;
Subjects to be studied;

and
Self-test questions, prac-

tice and tutorial questions with solutions.

The course texts contain all of the required content together with selfassessment exercises. The course texts have been designed to provide a progressive learning experience through sequential modules which build upon the information and knowledge learnt in previous modules of the course. The materials assume a zero-base knowledge of the subject.

There is no formal requirement for additional reading; however, some of the courses do contain a reading list, which may be useful to students wishing to deepen their understanding of the subject. The course texts form the core resource for students and the teaching programme should be built around the course content as provided in the texts.

Conditions of Enrolment The offering of courses will require B&B to enter into commitments for future expenses for the period of the programme aimed at satisfying possible student needs. Registration for such courses followed by attendance at or participation in classes will therefore be taken as an implicit agreement of the student to remain in the programme for the duration of the period so as to enable the Institute to meet these commitments entered into on their behalf, and will be interpreted as the provision of an instruction to the Institution to establish these commitments. Cancellation of Courses The withdrawal of the student from the programme will jeopardize the ability of the Institution to meet these commitments, and in so doing negatively affect its relationship with other students. As such, withdrawal will only be allowed upon the provision to the Programme Coordinator of a satisfactory explanation of the reason for withdrawal, and the acceptance of such. Verifiable cases of financial difficulty, family/personal problems, health issues, work-related difficulties, and poor academic performance will be accepted as valid reasons for withdrawal. Other cases will be subject to deliberation before acceptance. Once the withdrawal is accepted, the withdrawal procedure will then follow the established guidelines of the Awarding Body offering the qualification (if applicable). The student will have the right to present his/her case to the Awarding Body for a binding determination to be made in the event that B&B refuses to accept the reasons for withdrawal. Students are hereby advised that their registration for courses and the subsequent attendance at or participation in classes will give B&B Institute the right to have recourse by any means necessary for expenses suffered, up to the amount of the commitment that was made based on the understanding that they would remain in the course. This right may be waived based on the joint agreement of the Programme Coordinator and Executive Director/Principal of B&B. The right will also be waived if withdrawal is made before tuition begins. Refunds Students who withdraw from a programme before instruction begins will be refunded the full amount of all sums paid to the Institution, with the exception of the applicable registration fee. Refunds for students who withdraw from a programme of study after instruction begins and up to one month after the start of the programme are subject to the joint agreement of the Programme Coordinator and the Executive Director/Principal of B&B Institute. If the refund is granted, a portion of fees paid will be withheld to cover expenses suffered up to the date of withdrawal. The same policy of partial refund upon joint agreement of the validity of the same and acceptance of such will be applicable to students who register for a course but do not attend/participate in classes. Refunds will not be given for requests for withdrawals made more than one month after tuition has begun. Availability of Courses The Institute reserves the right to postpone or cancel any of its advertised courses for reasons such as the unavailability of a lecturer/tutor or a lack of sufficient student numbers. In this event, B&B Institute of Business will refund all fees already paid towards the withdrawn course.
