While presenting the monthly fire department report to the Augusta Charter Township Board of Trustees, Fire Chief Victor Chevrette announced June 26 that an Augusta Township firefighter was injured in Afghanistan last month during a fight that lasted for five hours. The Augusta firefighter, who lost his AUGUSTA hearing, was a memTWP. ber of an airborne unit out of Jackson, which also included a Chelsea firefighter and a state trooper. The police officer was wounded in one eye and the Chelsea firefighter may undergo leg amputations, Chevrette said. Clerk Kathy Giszczak asked if there was anything board members could do to support the servicemen.
