The Enrollment Process The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) assists Active Duty Service Members in managing the demands of a military career and care of a family member with special needs, whether medical, emotional or educational. The program gives consideration to the special needs of the family member during the assignment process and helps facilitate the continuity of care for the EFM.

The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a mandatory enrollment program per MCO P1754.4B. The aim of the program is to help monitors at Headquarters Marine Corps ensure consideration of family members with long-term medical needs (including physical and emotional) or any special education needs of the Exceptional Family Member in the assignment process. The family member must be enrolled in DEERS/MCTFS and reside with sponsor (exceptions include geographical bachelors and family members receiving inpatient care or living in an educational setting).

UPDATES AND DISENROLLMENT The sponsor is responsible for updating EFMP paperwork every three years or sooner for any enrollment changes such as; diagnosis or if there is a change in family status. Failure to update does not disenroll you from the EFM Program. To disenroll the DD Form 2792 must be signed by EFMs physician annotating that enrollment is no longer needed. For a change in family status such as divorce or death, please contact the EFMP office for guidance.

Who qualifies for EFMP? An Exceptional Family Member is any dependent enrolled in DEERS & MCTFS who requires special medical or educational services based upon a diagnosed chronic physical, intellectual, or emotional need.
