Jesus did a lot of great things.

One of the greatest things he did was to grant forgiveness.

He who had no sin forgave those who were full of sin.

John 8:1-11
1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them. 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst 4 they said to him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. 5 Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?" 6 This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.

John 8:1-11
7 And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her." 8 And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. 9 But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. 10 Jesus stood up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" 11 She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more."

Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them. - John 8:2

The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery. - John 8:3a

Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say? - John 8:4-5

This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. - John 8:6a

Their intention was to trap Jesus in his answer.

They were not really concerned with helping the woman get out of sin.

Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. - John 8:6b

Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her. - John 8:7b

Jesus shifted their focus from the woman's sin to their own sin.

Take note that the woman may truly have sinned. But Jesus doesn't want us to focus on the sin of others.

Jesus wants us to check our own hearts and focus on our own sin & need for forgiveness.

This is one of the hardest things to do especially if you are the one directly sinned against by the other person.

Many times, we don't want to face the reality of our own sin.

We want to emphasize/highlight the sin of others and de-emphasize our own sin.

But God sees us through and through. He knows the sin in our hearts. We can't hide anything from Him.

Let us ask Jesus to search our hearts right now...

Has someone hurt us?

(Family member, friend, or churchmate?)

Have we sinned against them? How may we have hurt them as well?

Let us ask Jesus for forgiveness and forgive those who have hurt us.

And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. - John 8:8

But when they heard it, they went away one by one... - John 8:9a

When we take Jesus' word seriously, we would realize our own deep need for mercy.

And that others who sinned need Jesus' mercy as well...

May this drive us to have compassion for others.

Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? - John 8:10b

No one, Lord. - John 8:11a

Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more. - John 8:11b

Jesus forgives!

Praise God!

Jesus forgives. Go and sin no more.

John 8:1-11

Jesus doesn't tolerate sin.

He loves and forgives but at the same time challenges you to leave your sin.

Jesus forgives. Go and sin no more.
